An unusual 19th century dark patinated bronze patent combination inkwell and desk compass, designed by Benjamin Waterhouse Hawkins (1807 - 1894), hinged cover cast as a coiled cobra, set with a dial and crested by a 'crystal ball', rocky base, opaque glass liner, 18cm high, the design published February 5th 1850
