An unusual Cabinet of Curiosities,late 19th century, the rosewood carcass with eight drawers, each applied with menuki cast in bronze with details in gold and silver, and with kiku mon in mother-of-pearl, the base drawer with large swallows and cast bronze ape handle, the doors opening on nine further drawers with a variety of handles,59cm wide27cm deep62.5cm highMost of the ninety-one menuki are gilt bronze, but some could be coins or fixings and some could be made of gold. Whatever they are and whoever put this collection together, they selected each piece with an eye to quality.
