dating: circa 1800 provenance: England Beautiful, wide, single-and false-edged blade with wide fuller at the center, the first part engraved with gilt trophies on a blue background, a coat of arms with prancing lion and floral motifs; gilt-bronze hilt with half-circled langets decorated with leaves, rectangular quillon block with scales, grooved, "S"-shaped quillons, the edges decorated with floral motifs, brown, horn grip, thin chain. Iron scabbard with gilt-bronze mounts (scrapings), iron knuckle-guard with gilt-bronze core; two suspension rings. Very scarce. dimensions: length 89.5 cm.

Lock converted to percussion, with flat plate, featuring beautiful engravings of women and a wood path; hammer engraved with racemes. Wooden full stock (small damages), chiselled with spirals. Gilt bronze mounts, all featuring bas-relieved decorations depicting old-fashioned warriors, a battle of soldiers on horseback, a Turkish man and a maiden with horn and lance, and a bloodhound. A WW II American/British Airbourne group of five medals to include 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star, War, Defence and U.S. Bronze Star, naming CPL. WILLIAM AINSWORTH.
