The finely turned mahogany handle of good rich bronze colour with ? on terminal. The fish slice in fine condition

JOSEF LORENZL. AN ART DECO BRONZE STATUETTE OF A DANCING GIRL on turned onyx plinth, 20.5cm h, inscribed Lorenzl and stamped REAL BRONZE/MADE IN AUSTRIA, c1925 ++Long in present local private ownership, the statuette was dropped in a recent burglary resulting in a fine crack in the left ankle with consequent slight disturbance of the patina. Otherwise excellent and entirely unrestored condition, the shiny mid brown patina original and undisturbed save as noted

A bronze commemoration medal of Gustav Mahler by Alfred Rothberger, [1905], obverse; portrait bust in low relief, cast caption GUSTAV MAHLER, signed to flan edge, reverse; art nouveau decoration, MEINE ZEIT WIRD NOCH KOMMEN, 49mm diameter, very fine, in fitted case, together with four other bronze medals and plaques celebrating the composers Liszt, Donizetti, Gounod and Nicholai, signed by Focht, Beran, Placht, Caque respectively, some dated, 70mm diameter and smaller. A rare bronze medal commemorating the laying of the foundation of Covent Garden Theatre by George, Prince of Wales, by Peter Rouw (1771-1852), 1808, bronze relief medal, the obverse with a profile bust of the Prince of Wales in high relief, signed Rouw to truncation, cast separetely and pinned to flan, the reverse with inscription GEORGIUS. PRINCEPS. WALLIARUM. THEATRI. REGIIS. INSTAURANDI. AUSPICIIS. IN. HORTIS. BENEDICTINIS. LONDINI. FUNDAMENTA. SUA. MANU. LOCAVIT., 91mm diameter, very fine. BHM 638; Eimer 990 Provenance: Formerly in the collection of Joseph Farington R.A. (1747-1841). Latterly in the collection of Alec Clunes (1912-1970), actor and theatre manager. A contemporary hand-written note on circular paper in brown ink providing details of the history of the medal and itÂ’s ownership accompanies this medal. It is believed that eighteen medals were struck from the die, which was then broken, one being laid under the foundation stone, seven given to the Prince of Wales, and one each to the King, the Queen, the Duke of Northumberland, Sir Thomas Lawrence R.A., Richard Payne Knight, the British Museum, the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge and Robert Smirke, the architect. According to the hand-written note, this copy was given by Smirke to his close friend Joseph Farington R.A. -1

A bronze medal profile portrait of Giuditta Angiola Maria Costanza Pasta (1797-1865), by Pierre-Jean David d’Angers (1789-1856), 1828, bronze medal relief portrait in profile, the sitter facing right, with her hair tied up, inscribed Giuditta Pasta di Milano to border, signed bellow truncation, David and dated 1828, 116mm diameter, set within a period wooden frame and circular gilt surround, with label of Alphonse Giroux, Rue du Coq S. Honore No 7 a Paris to verso, contained in original silk-lined green morocco case (somewhat faded and a little wear to edges) A fine portrait medal of the Italian soprano Giuditta Pasta (1797-1865), from the series of portrait medals by Pierre-Jean David d’Angers entitled Galerie des Contemporains. Pasta is considered one of the greatest 19th century opera divas of the 19th century, not dissimilar to Maria Callas in the 20th century. She made her first appearance in Milan in 1815, and performed in numerous roles in operas by Rossini, Donizetti, and Bellini (many of which were created for her) to great acclaim. After hearing her in the role of Telemachus in Cimarosa’s Penelope, William Hazlitt wrote ‘There is a natural eloquence about her singing which we felt, and therefore understand ... her voice is good, her action is good; she has a handsome face, and very handsome legs’. -1
* Lind (Jenny, 1820-87). A bronze commemorative medal of Jenny Lind, by C. C. Quarnstrom, late 19th century, obverse:relief portrait bust with cast caption, signed to flan edge, reverse: MINNESGARD/AF TONKONSTENS VANNER/I STOCKHOLM, decorative border of lyres interspersed with wreaths containing Lind’s operatic roles, shallow relief design of four classical figures around a pedastal, one of the figures is inscribing ‘3 DEC. 1847/D. 12 APRIL.1848’, 77mm diameter, fine/very fine, together with a group of Lind memorabilia, including a paper-mache trinket box, decorated with a half length portrait of Lind, a porcelain figure, probably continental, showing Lind with flowers at her feet, a pressed glass bottle and pin dish each with head and shoulder portrais impressed, and a Baxter print of a full length portrait, framed and glazed -6
