Marcks, Gerhard. 1889 Berlin - 1981 Burgbrohl. Sitzender Denker. Entwurf 1967. Ausführung 1988. Bronze, patiniert. Rückseitig monogr. u. num. I sowie Giessermarke Schmäke Düsseldorf, laut Rudloff 876 sind bislang nur Ausführungen in Zink bekannt, das vorliegende Exemplar ist die erste und bislang einzige Ausführung in Bronze, 39,5 x 27 x 21,7 cm. Provenienz: Privatsammlung Bremen.- Marcks besaß enge Verbindungen zu Bremen - nicht zuletzt wegen seiner Skulpturen Die Bremer Stadtmusikanten (1953) und Der Rufer (1966) sowie die Bronzen im Skulpturengarten der Bürgerschaft (1960-1969), die er für die Hansestadt ausarbeitete. 1966 entschied er, wesentliche Teile seines Lebenswerks in Kooperation mit dem Kunstverein und der Stadt in eine Stiftung zu überführen. Drei Jahre später wurde die Gerhard-Marcks-Stiftung gegründet, 1971 wurde das Gerhard-Marcks-Haus in Bremen eröffnet, das seinen künstlerischen Nachlass verwaltet.
