An early 20th century black polished slate French mantel clock, pedimented case with bronze partera in tympanum, fluted Corinthian columns, flanked by cast bronze figures of boy with rearing horse on bevelled rectangular base, gilt dial with fretted centre, Arabic chapter on ceramic reserves, blued steel hands, signed J W Benson/Ludgate Hill, London, anonymous French 14 day movement No. 61811 striking on a gong. James William Benson (1826-1878) was a member of a clockmaking dynasty in London dating back to 1749. In 1847 he set up in business with his elder brother but worked alone at Lugate Hill from 1855. He was succeeded by his sons and the firm continued until being sold to Garrads in 1973. From c. 1900 the firm also retailed clocks, and in 1916 their manufactory was destroyed in a Zeppelin raid, after which they retailed only.

1st (Exeter & South Devon) Volunteer Rifles, Pouch Belt Plate circa 1902-1908, very rare example in heavy die-cast bronze, the Imperial crown over an oval strap 'Exeter & South Devon' enclosing the legend '1st Volunteer Rifles 1852', an ornate scroll at the bottom, 'Semper Fidelis'. Two screw post fasteners complete with nuts and washers. Very good overall condition.

Great War Machine Gun Corps Officers Cuff Rank Tunic, of fine heavy whip cord Khaki cloth material. Bronze officers collar badges and brass regimental tunic buttons to the front, pockets and shoulders. The cuffs are laced and have two rank pips to each. To the lower section of one cuff is three blue overseas service stripes. Above the breast is medal ribbons for WW1 service. Clement and Sunderland tailors label to the interior. The interior lining remains in very good condition showing just minimal service wear. Very neat period repair to the lower section of the reverse of the tunic. Accompanied by a pair of post WW1 officers breeches. Wonderful example of a first world war officers cuff rank tunic.
