Marcel Debut (French 1865-1933)A patinated bronze Art Nouveau reclining semi-nude female figure, on a stepped black and white veined marble base, signed DEBUT, 39cm high, 30cm wide.Marcel was the son of Didier Debut, he studied under this father as well as Henri Chapu and at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. He first exhibited at the Salon in 1883 and worked as a sculptor and as a painter.

A Victorian bronze door knocker, in the form of a female face. Height 19 cm, width 14 cm. CONDITION REPORT: Other than being dirty the door knocker is in generally good order with no significant condition issues. The tip of the nose is rubbed and there is other minor rubbing to the original finish around the proud parts of the headdress. There are however no real problems with this lot.

A Japanese Meiji period tanto dagger, with dark brown leather bound and bronze mounted hilt and plain steel blade, with scabbard the same, fitted with a smaller dagger, 38 cm overall. CONDITION REPORT: The slight damage to the scabbard with some leather loss and chipping to wood but generally this dagger is in reasonably good condition

After J P Morante, an Art Deco style figure of a dancing girl with hoop. Height 67 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The dancing girl with the hoop appears to be patinated bronze and is showing in small areas the gold coloured metal under the patination. It is in good condition throughout apart from some minor marks and scratches.

A large Art Deco style centrepiece female figure with Borzois, onyx base signed Uriano. Height 57 cm, length 83 cm, depth 16 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The material for the figure is cast and patinated metal with the appearance of bronze, our instinct is to say bronzed however there is a possibility it could be patinated brass. The figures head and hands appear to be ivorine, moulded ivorine, and have some age staining and some cracking. The head has been re-attached with glue, the central figure has some wear and tarnishing to the finish, the dogs have some wear and scratching and oxidation but generally are in good condition. The onyx base has some minor cracking, edge knocks and small losses but overall in good condition. The onyx base again is signed Uriano to the rear right hand corner.

The 19th century Chinese black patinated bronze figure of Fu Xing, in the Archaistic style, 22 cm high, with associated ebonised wooden circular stand. CONDITION REPORT: This figure is of a good quality and a significant weight. The figure is in a good condition with no wear or damage to patina. The stand is modern.

MANJUSHRI.Tibetochinesisch, Yongle-Stil, 15. Jh. H 14,5 cm.Bronze mit Gold über Braunlack, Details in Rotlack. Der Bodhisattva der Weisheit schwingt mit der Rechten sein Schwert über dem Kopf, die Linke hält eine Lotosblume mit einem kleinen Sutrenbuch. Er thront auf einem doppelten Lotosthron, der gut modelliert und umlaufend gestaltet ist. Sockelplatte verloren.Provenienz: Schweizer Privatsammlung, vom Grossvater des Einlieferers um 1950 erworben (ohne Belege).

HIMMLISCHE DAME.China, ca. 13. Jh. H 21 cm.Bronze mit Vergoldung über Rotlack. Die elegant zur Seite geneigte schmale Figur trägt ein Gewand mit überlangen Ärmeln und wird von einem Schal umweht. In der linken Hand hält sie eine stilisierte Blume. Holzsockel.Provenienz: Prof. Dr. Ferdinand Wagenseil (1887–1967), 1931 in Shanghai erworben (kein Beleg vorhanden). Sammlung Adalbert und Elke Offermann, Köln.Eine ähnliche Figur befindet sich im Museum of East Asian Art in Bath, England.

KLEINE FIGUR DES KRISHNA VENUGOPALA MIT NANDI.Südindien, 18. Jh. oder früher, H 7,5 cm.Bronze. Schmuck und Gewand sind mit graviertem Dekor akzentuiert. Krishna, in eleganter Haltung auf einem Lotossockel stehend, das rechte Bein tänzerisch angehoben, die Arme zum Flötenspiel erhoben. Flöte verloren.

AMITAYUS.Tibetochinesisch, um 1770, H 18 cm.Feuervergoldete Bronze. Der Herr des unermesslichen Lebens sitzt in Meditationshaltung auf einem viereckigen Thron. Ein Tuch fällt drapiert über den vorderen Sockelrand. Die Lotusblüte in den Händen ist später ergänzt.Provenienz: Norddeutsche Privatsammlung.

CANDRAKIRTI.Tibetochinesisch, 16. Jh. H 17 cm.Bronze. Der Meister hat die Rechte in der Geste des Lehrens erhoben, an seiner Seite steht ein Schüler mit dem Hut der Karma Kagyu-Tradition. Chandrakirtis Erläuterungen zu Nagarjunas Mittlerem Weg wurde von mehreren Karmapas rezipiert und kommentiert. Sockel verschlossen.

HAYAGRIVA.Tibetochinesisch, 18. Jh. H 10,8 cm.Feuervergoldete Bronze. Der sechsarmige, dreiköpfige Gott mit drei Pferdeköpfen in den flammenden Haaren steht im Ausfallschritt nach rechts. Er hat ein Tigerfell um die Hüfte geschlungen, eine Elefantenhaut bedeckt die Schultern. Späterer Steinsockel.Publiziert in: D.I. Lauf, Das Erbe Tibets, 1972, Farbtafel 68.

SITZENDER BODHISATTVA.China, Ming-Dynastie, H 37,5 cm (mit Sockel).Bronze mit Gold- über Rotlack. Guanyin sitzt in der Lotoshaltung, in der linken Hand hält er eine Schale, die Rechte hat er vor die Brust gehoben. In der Krone trägt er den Buddha Amithaba, auf den Lotosblüten neben den Schultern stehen ein Vogel und eine Wasserflasche. Lotossockel. Min. besch.

SITZENDE GUANYIN.China, Ming-Dynastie, ca. 16. Jh. H 28,5 cm.Lackvergoldete Bronze. Der fröhlich wirkende Bodhisattva mit rundlichem Gesicht sitzt im Lotossitz auf einem dreifachen Lotosthron. Die rechte Hand ist erhoben, in der Linken hält er eine Perle. Spenderinschrift an der Rückseite des Sockels.

BUDDHA SHAKYAMUNI VAJRASANA.Tibet, 15. Jh. H 19,5 cm.Feuervergoldete Bronze, die Haare mit Resten von blauer Fassung. Der Buddha ruft mit der Rechten die Erde zur Zeugin, die Linke liegt in dhyanamudra im Schoss. Vor ihm liegt ein Vajra auf dem Lotosthron, der umlaufend gestaltet ist. Verschlussplatte etwas lose.

SELTENE FIGUR DES ACUOYE-GUANYIN.China, Yunnan, Königreich Dali, 12. Jh. H 33 cm (ohne Sockel).Bronze mit Spuren von Rotlack und Gold. Die schmale Figur mit hoher Frisur und reich geschmücktem, unbekleidetem Oberkörper hält die Rechte in vitarkamudra, die Linke in varadamudra. Ein gefältelter Dhoti fällt bis auf die Knöchel herab, der Gürtel ist vorne zu einer Schleife gebunden. Ergänzter Sockel.Provenienz: Aus der Sammlung von Marie Pierre Isle de Beauchaine (Orléans 1881–1934 Hanoi). Dieser reiste noch als Jugendlicher zu einem Verwandten nach Tonkin (Vietnam), wurde dort Zollbeamter und reiste viel, u.a. in archäologischer Mission nach Nord-Laos. Er war befreundet mit dem zweitletzten vietnamesischen Kaiser Khai Dinh. Seither in Familienbesitz. Vergleiche: In Grösse und Stil am vergleichbarsten ist eine Figur im British Museum London. Weitere Figuren diesen Typs sind u.a. im Metropolitan Museum New York, im Musée Guimet in Paris und natürlich im Yunnan Provincial Museum in Kunming zu sehen.Weiterführende Literatur: Albert Lutz, Der Tempel der Drei Pagoden von Dali, Zürich 1991, S. 117-127.

STEHENDE GUANYIN.China, Tang-Dynastie, H 12,3 cm.Feuervergoldete Bronze. Der elegant in leichter Tribhanga stehende Bodhisattva trägt eine Wasserflasche und einen Weidenzweig, das Diadem im Haar wird von einer sitzenden Figur des Buddhas Amithaba bekrönt. Holzstand.Provenienz: Schweizer Privatsammlung.
