(HMS Lion was flagship for the First Battle Cruiser Squadron, the 'Splendid Cats' and at the Battle of Heligoland Bight she sank the German light cruiser Koln. For Dogger Bank and Jutland, she was Admiral Sir David Beatty’s flagship and was the first ship to open fire at the latter battle, on 31 May 1916.)
