A bronze porthole salvaged from the wreck of the Cunard Line iron passenger cargo ship SS Malta:, the standard pattern porthole stamped '37', mounted in a later ship's helm style teak frame with lockable mirror backed compartment beneath Junghans Ato-Matic clock movement, inscribed descriptive plaques to the lower edge of the helm, 70cm diameter.*Notes The SS Malta was an iron hulled passenger cargo ship built by J & G Thompson, Glasgow, launched on 9th October 1865 and entering service in February 1866. Initially used for Transatlantic routes she was switched to Mediterranean service running aground in poor visibility on the rocks under Kenidjack Castle near Cape Cornwall on the 15th October 1889.
