David Shrigley OBE (British, b.1968). 'Ace of Clubs'. Paint on card, signed 'D.Shrig' and dated verso. 30 x 21cm. David John Shrigley OBE is a British visual artist. He lived and worked in Glasgow, Scotland for 27 years before moving to Brighton, England in 2015.As well as authoring several books, he directed the video for Blur's Good Song and also for Bonnie 'Prince' Billy's Agnes, Queen of Sorrow. In 2005 he designed a London Underground leaflet cover. Since 2005, he has contributed a cartoon for The Guardian's Weekend magazine every Saturday.[16] Other projects have included the album Worried Noodles (Tom Lab, 2007) where musicians interpret his writings as lyrics, including collaborations by David Byrne, Hot Chip, and Franz Ferdinand.Recent notable solo exhibitions include Animate, Turku Art Museum, Finland (2011); Kelvingrove Museum, Glasgow International Festival of Visual Arts, Glasgow, Scotland (2010); New Powers, Kunsthalle Mainz, Germany (2009); David Shrigley, Museum Ludwig, Cologne, Germany (2008); Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead, UK (2008); Everything Must Have a Name, Malmö Konsthall, Malmo, Sweden (2007) and David Shrigley, Dundee Contemporary Arts, Dundee, Scotland (2006).Shrigley's sculpture Really Good was installed on Trafalgar Square's Fourth plinth in September 2016 until March 2018. George Dance - A 1922 Brooklands BMCRC Bronze Roundel,with British Motor Cycle Racing Club, Britannia and laurel design relief to the centre, 'Frith 20' casting mark, inscribed:'1st Prize, Scratch Race Classes A&B G. Dance Brooklands, 8th April 1922'Mounted on wooden plaque, 22cm diameter. Footnotes:Riding his works overhead-valve Sunbeam on 8th April 1922, Dance became the first person to lap Brooklands at over 80mph on a 350, raising the record from 74.5mph (set by AJS's Howard R Davies) to 80.51mph. Having won the 350cc Solo 3 Lap Handicap race he went on to win the 350cc Solo 3 Lap Scratch Race, and then entered the same 350 machine in the 500 Scratch Race, leading Douglas-mounted Cyril Pullin for the first two laps, Pullin's average speed (78.9mph) being exactly the same as Dance's in the 350 Scratch. In a thrilling struggle he finished 2nd to Pullin, being beaten by only a matter of yards.Like many motorcycle racers of his generation, George Dance was a consummate all-rounder but is best remembered for his countless successes in sprints and hill climbs. He started work at Sunbeam as a mechanic just before the First World War and made his first competitive appearance at a hill climb in Wolverhampton. Signs of his talent did not take long to emerge, and in 1915 at the Style Cop hill climb he bagged a hat-ful of awards on a new Sunbeam 4hp single. In his definitive work on the marque, The Sunbeam Motorcycle, Bonhams' specialist Bob Cordon Champ has this to say about Dance: 'George Dance was, simply, a wizard with a sprint motorcycle. Competing in most types of event, he failed to reach the top in the others but his appearance at a hill climb... was enough to cause a pall of gloom to descend upon the paddock'. Dance was virtually unbeatable, and as a development engineer at Sunbeam he created the famous 'Sprint' models.Although a sprint and hill climb specialist, Dance was no slouch either at Brooklands or the Isle of Man TT. On the occasion of his first visit to the Island in 1920 he lapped at record pace before being sidelined by a broken valve on lap three. At the 1921 TT he crashed on lap four while leading, and completed the race with the bike stuck in top gear to finish 8th. It was the only TT Replica he would win, every other outing up to and including his last in 1926 resulting in a 'DNF'. c.1974 Beamish Suzuki RL250 Trials MotorcycleRegistration no. not registeredFrame no. 101505Engine no. 101505The Beamish Suzuki was first produced in the 1970s by ex-BSA works rider, Graham Beamish, at that time UK agent for Suzuki moto-cross machines. Beamish began by modifying a batch of RL250 trials models at the beginning of the 1974 season, the success of which prompted him to purchase all of the remaining unsold stock of the unpopular RL250 'Exacta'. Although Beamish's modifications had improved the bike, what it really needed was a completely new frame, production of which was entrusted to trials rider and frame builder, Mick Whitlock, who designed one made of lightweight Reynolds 531 tubing, bronze-welded and chromed: the 'Whitehawk'. A staggering 1,200 of this first Beamish Suzuki model were sold. A revised Mk2 version featuring a lighter/stronger frame and a higher proportion of British-made components was introduced for 1976, while a larger-engined RL325 model debuted at the 1978 Earls Court Motorcycle Show. Production of Beamish Suzukis ended in 1981. This very nicely presented Beamish Suzuki has been restored by John and Graham Pantah of GB Classic Motorcycles. There are no documents with this Lot. EMPIRE STYLE CONSOLE TABLE Kolem 1810 Mahogany, walnut, maple, gilded bronze 85 x 95 x 42 cm With its first-class quality of workmanship, the unique Empire-style console table corresponds to the important Viennese workshop of Joseph Ulrich Danhauser. Already at the time of its creation, this model represented the pinnacle of the representative equipment of European aristocratic residences. Winged black and gold caryatids with dolphin fins hold a central drawer with elegant fire-gilded bronze fittings. At the base, a star-shaped semicircular marquetry is reflected in the adjacent mirror. Timeless design is represented by simple and decorated gold lines, among other things. Photographs of the condition before restoration are available. Restored.

MILOSLAV HÁJEK 1927 - 2010: A HEAD 1960 Patinated plaster 40 cm Signed: On the front "M. Hájek 60" The work of Miloslav Hájek brings a combination of modern and archaic elements. The morphology of his sculptures cannot be denied the lines of modernity or expressive lyricism. In particular, Hájek's faces often have a dreamy impression and with their dramatic poses and cubist form represent a subtle and elegant direction in the modernist conception of the group Máj57, which subscribed to the legacy of Picasso, Matisse, Derain, Kubišta, Filla, Zrzavý, Kremlička, Šíma and Tichý. The act of a girl with a hand in her hands was subjected by Miloslav Hájek to several treatments, the presented work Head is the original plaster model of the subsequently created bronze sculptures.

LADISLAV ŠALOUN 1870 - 1946: A STATUE OF TYRŠ Ca. 1925 Bronze 64 cm Signed: On the plinth "L Šaloun" Ladislav Šaloun became famous in his time as an excellent portraitist and portrayed many famous personalities. The most famous is his monument to Jan Hus on the Old Town Square. In the portrait of PhDr. Miroslav Tyrš, co-founder of the Sokol of Prague, chose an elegant style, depicting Tyrš as a proud elegant man in a Sokol costume with a sword. Unfortunately, the original large statue was destroyed during the war, but its copy was created in the courtyard of Tyrš's house in Prague-Újezd according to a preserved model. Marked with foundry hallmark of Karel Barták.

ROCOCO TABERNACLE Kolem 1760 Germany walnut, maple, ebony, cherry wood, gilded bronze, ivory, tin 210 x 134 x 70 cm The extraordinarily elaborated inlaid rococo tabernacle with atin and ivory marquetry captures the motif of the Lord's Last Supper with inlaid architecture. This rare model consists of twelve main drawers, with a pewter rococo ornament inserted into the wood and gilded bronze fittings, and two openableboxes, in central there are nine other small drawers. The interiors of the drawers are newly upholstered. The edges of the tabernacle are lined with masterfully carved stained walnut decoration. Restored.
