Generalmajor Hugo von Wenz zu Niederlahnstein (1875 - 1939) - prunkvolles Abschiedsgeschenk des Infanterie Leib-Regiments, 1910 Auf dem dreigliedrigen, feuervergoldeten Bronzesockel mit der eingeschlagenen Matrikelnummer "63" ruht auf drei in dunkler Bronze gehaltenen Granaten die Dedikationsplatte mit geschwärzter Inschrift "DAS OFFIZIERS-KORPS DES INFANTERIE LEIB-REGIMENTS DEM HAUPTMANN HUGO V. WENZ ZU NIEDERLAHNSTEIN 27.2.96. - 24.1.10". Darauf gestülpt der innen vergoldete Trinkbecher aus Silber in Form der Offiziers-Grenadiermütze des Regiments aus der Gründungszeit 1814. Teilweise vergoldet (Beschlag und Schuppenkette), graviert und mehrfarbig emailliert. Bis auf Schäden der Emaille des Federstoßes in sehr guter Erhaltung. Gesamthöhe 20,8 cm, Gesamtgewicht 623 g, Gewicht des Bechers 240 g. Es handelt sich hierbei um das Abschiedsgeschenk an Hugo von Wenz anlässlich der Versetzung in den Generalstab 1910. Das Datum 1896 bezieht sich auf die Offiziersreife und das Patent zum Secondleutnant im Regiment, in dem er 1898 Bataillonsadjutant und 1902 Kompaniechef wurde. Dem Generalstab im Bayerischen Kriegsministerium gehört er bis zum Ende des Ersten Weltkriegs an, 1921 erfolgt seine Beförderung zum Oberstleutnant, 1923 zum Oberst, 1924 wird er Chef des Stabes der 7. Division der Reichswehr und am 1. Februar 1927 Kommandeur des 20. Infanterie-Regiments. Nach seiner Beförderung zum Generalmajor am 1. Manfred Freiherr von Richthofen (1892 - 1918) - persönliches Petschaft des legendären Jagdfliegers Bronze, zweiteilig gearbeitet. Das Griffstück in Form des Ikarus mit ausgebreiteten Flügeln. Das runde, abschraubbare Podest mit gravierter Siegelfläche, dem Familienwappen von Richthofens. Gesamthöhe 10,2 cm, Spannweite der Flügel 7,8 cm. Dabei zwei moderne Siegelabdrücke.In gewisser Weise erfüllte sich das Schicksal des Ikarus auch für von Richthofen. Er flog zwar nicht zu hoch, aber an seinem Todestag viel zu weit hinter die britischen Linien, vermutlich hervorgerufen durch den Kopftreffer eines Projektils am 6.7.1917 und eine daraus resultierende Schädigung des vorderen Hirnlappens, was am 21.4.1918 wohl dazu führte, dass er fixiert auf sein Opfer, den kanadischen Leutnant Wilfrid May, nicht mehr abließ und von australischen MG-Schützen tödlich getroffen wurde.Provenienz: ZAM - Zentrum für Außergewöhnliche Museen, München. U-Boot-Kapitän Paul König (1867 - 1933) - Erinnerungskreuz zum 9. Juli 1916 Eisen, die Kreuzarme beidseitig mit erhabenem Datum "9. JULI 1916", beidseitig im Zentrum reliefierte Medaillons aus Buntmetall, schauseitig das Profil Königs mit Umschrift "PAUL KÖNIG KAPITÄN / U-DEUTSCHLAND" und auf der Gegenseite die Ansicht des U-Bootes mit Umschrift "ZUR ERINNERUNG AN DIE ANKUNFT DES ERSTEN HANDELS U-BOOTES IN BALTIMORE / 9. JULI 1916". Gebrauchs- und Altersspuren. Anbei zwei originale Zeitungsartikel aus den 1930er Jahren. Breite des Kreuzes 72 mm, Gewicht 280 g. Selten. Nach Ausbruch des Ersten Weltkrieges wurde König als Kapitänleutnant der Reserve in die Kaiserliche Marine eingezogen. Eingesetzt wurde er zunächst als Wachoffizier, später als 1. Offizier. Ab Januar 1916 besuchte er die U-Boot-Schule, im Juni erhielt er das Kommando über das erste Handels-U-Boot "U-Deutschland". Mit diesem U-Boot gelang ihm 1916 eine Fahrt in die USA, die zu diesem Zeitpunkt noch nicht am Krieg beteiligt waren. Das als Ballast dienende Eisen wurde zu den vorliegenden Erinnerungskreuzen umgearbeitet, die aber aufgrund des Kriegseintrittes der USA nur in wenigen Exemplaren von König nach Deutschland gebracht werden konnten. König führte 1917 bis Kriegsende eine Gruppe von Sperrbrechern und war nach Kriegsende in der Marineleitung tätig. Lester Award: The Jockeys’ Association of Great Britain Flat Race Jockey of the Year Award presented to Pat Eddery in 1991, in the form of a Philip Blacker bronze sculpture of a jockey, signed with initials and dated ’91, golden patina, set on a black stone plinth set with plaque with presentation inscription, height 36.5cm., good condition This was only the second year of the Lesters, the annual ceremony where Flat and National Hunt jockeys are recognised for their achievements, an event named in honour of the legendary jockey Lester Piggott. Pat Eddery won in the inaugural year of 1990 and again in 1991 as Best Flat Race Jockey.
The William Hill Golden Spurs Award presented to Pat Eddery as 'Best Flat Jockey in 1990, in the form of a bronze sculpture of a galloping racehorse & jockey, mounted on an oval wooden plinth set with plaque with presentation inscription, 22 by 26cm. In 1990 Pat Eddery won his eight Jockey Championship title and the most prolific in terms of winners, surpassing 200 for the first and only time, finishing the season on 209. He also rode what was to be his third and final Derby win on Quest For Fame. Other big race wins included rides on Great Commotion (Cork & Orrery), Batshoof (Prince of Wales's & Tattersalls Gold Cup), Tirol (Irish 2,000 Guineas), Houseproud (French 1,000 Guineas), Sanglamore (French Derby), Distant Relative (Prix du Moulin) and Defensive Play (Man O'War).
The winning jockey’s trophy presented to Pat Eddery for the victory on Olden Times in the Prix Jean Prat at Chantilly 3rd June 2001, In the form of a bronze sculpture of a racehorse and jockey, bearing signature C Valton, the base set with plaque inscribed with race details, 20 by 22cm., good condition Olden Times was a British-bred bay colt (1998) by Darshaan out of Garah (Ajdal). He was owned by Prince A A Faisal and trained to win this French G1 at Arundel by John Dunlop. On home soil his best win was in the Earl of Sefton and he was also placed in three G1 races. As a stallion he sired the good Cup horse Times Up, trained by Ed Dunlop. This was Pat Eddery's only victory in the Prix Jean Prat.
William Newton (British, contemporary) LESTER PIGGOTT signed, dated '18 and numbered 6/30, a rich-brown bronze maquette of the life-size statues of the legendary jockey Lester Piggott that stand at Epsom (unveiled by HM The Queen on Derby Day, 2019), Newmarket, Ascot, York and Curragh racecourses, and additionally the Vale & Downland Museum in Wantage, the edition of 30 representing Lester Piggott's record breaking feat of winning 30 English Classic races, No.6 thereby representing St Paddy's win in the 1960 Derby, Lester's jacket bears the chevron of the St George family colours, the sculpture project commissioned by David St George, height 44cm. The trophy for the Ian Williams Owners Novices' Chase won by Mr & Mrs Peter Thompson's 'Mighty Montefalco' at Cheltenham 30th October 2002, in the form of a resin bronze sculpture of a steeplechaser and jockey, on wooden plinth with race title plaque, overall 30.5 by 34cm., damaged front leg; sold together with photographs (mostly framed) of the occasion at Cheltenham, including Mrs Thompson holding the trophy, images of the winning trainer and jockey Jonjo O'Neill and A P McCoy, and race action The proceeds for this lot are being donated by the seller to the Injured Jockeys' Fund.
The Sir Peter O’Sullevan Award: presented to Pat Eddery upon his retirement from the saddle in 2003 and recognising a lifetime's contribution to the sport, in the form of a bronze sculpture by Janie Beardsall of Sir Peter O’Sullevan’s famous race commentary binoculars (that originally came from a German submarine), mounted on a marble plinth with plaque inscribed THE SIR PETER O’SULLEVAN AWARD, 2003, PAT EDDERY, 33 by 26cm., good condition The Sir Peter O'Sullevan Award Lunch is the principal fund-raising event for The Sir Peter O'Sullevan Charitable Trust. This prestigious award recognises a lifetime's contribution to the sport and has done so since 1997. Pat Eddery received his award on his retirement in 2003. He is one of three jockeys to have been presented the bronze replica of Sir Peter O'Sullevan's famous race commentary binoculars, the others being Lester Piggott and A P McCoy.

The winning jockey's trophy awarded to Lester Piggott after his celebrated ride on Royal Academy to win the Breeders' Cup Mile at Belmont Park 27th October 1990, in the form of a bronze reproduction of the Torrie or Mattei horse, the Renaissance anatomical bronze sculpture created by Giambologna in Florence circa 1585, set on a green marble plinth with presentation plaque reading ROYAL ACADEMY, WINNER, SEVENTH BREEDERS' CUP MILE, BELMONT PARK, OCTOBER 27, 1990, JOCKEY LESTER PIGGOT [sic], 16.5 by 11cm.; sold together with the racecard signed by Lester Piggott, and a photo of Lester at the signing; a silver photo frame inscribed Racing World Awards 1990, Riding Performance, Lester Piggott; and another framed photo (5 items) Royal Academy was a bay colt (1987) by Nijinsky out of Crimson Saint (Crimson Satan). He was owned by Classic Thoroughbreds Plc and trained in Ireland by Vincent O'Brien. Having won The Tetrarch Stakes and the July Cup in 1990 he was sent to America to run in the Breeders' Cup Mile at Belmont Park - which is where the story really begins! Trainer Vincent O’Brien’s regular rider John Reid, and who had ridden Royal Academy to victory in the July Cup, was sidelined with a broken collar bone. The Master of Ballydoyle turned to his jockey of yesteryear Lester Piggott who was 54-years-old, in retirement following a well-publicised prison sentence for tax fraud. Lester rose to the challenge and just 12 days after coming out of retirement headed to New York to team up with the trainer with whom he had shared so much success over the years. In the race, Royal Academy missed the break and the pair found themselves trailing all 12 rivals initially. Summoning a lifetime’s experience in race riding, without any panic Lester and his partner began picking off rivals expending the minimum amount of energy. Royal Academy was still on the bridle but only sixth entering the short home stretch. By the furlong pole they were in fourth and then Piggott unleashed his trademark finish that had set him apart from others in his illustrious career and Royal Academy got up in the shadow of the winning post to edge out Itsallgreektome by a neck. The race commentator exclaiming “Royal Academy does it and a living legend out of retirement 54-year-old Lester Piggott pulls off the upset.” Brough Scott analysing the victory from Lester’s midfield position entering the stretch summed it perfectly for all that had been enthralled with Lester’s horsemanship for so long “somehow you just knew he's going to do it. It’s his simple genius.” In his post-race interview Brough asked the comeback jockey “It’s 20 years since Nijinsky, is it still there for you? Piggott replied “You never forget do you.” Lester is quoted as saying “No moment in my career ever tasted sweeter.”
Jean Walwyn (British, 1925-2022) RED BERRY AND FOAL signed and dated 1982, bronze, mid-brown patina, mounted on green marble plinth, overall 28 by 42cm., good condition Red Berry was a daughter of Great Nephew out of a Big Game mare foaled in 1971. She was trained at Lambourn by the sculptress's brother Peter Walwyn. She was a smart two-year-old recording four wins before finishing a creditable second in the Cheveley Park at Newmarket. The filly did not recapture her form as a three-year-old and was retired as a broodmare. Sculptress Jean "Jinnie" Marjorie Walwyn was the sister of Peter Walwyn and a cousin of Fulke Walwyn.
