An emotive group to Private W. Tall, Royal West Kent Regiment, who was taken prisoner after the siege of Kut and later died as a result of his shocking treatment by the Turks 1914-15 Star (TF-2458. Pte. W.Tall. R.W.Kent. R.), British War and Victory Medals (TF-2459 Pte W.Tall. R.W.Kent R.), extremely fine, with card packaging and envelopes (Mr R. Tall, 56 Darnley Road, Gravesend), Bronze Memorial Plaque (William Alexander Tall), extremely fine, with card packaging, paper envelope and letter of condolence, two small photographs of the recipient in uniform, pocket diary for 1915, recipients identity tag, a large brass `Queens Own R West Kent Regt` plaque (12.5cm high), a letter from Private Tall to his mother written in Baghdad (12.6.1916) whilst in a prisoner of war camp, an original newpaper cutting from the Derby Daily Telegraph dated 23.9.1916 headline "Derby Cricketer`s Death at Baghdad". Original correspondence between R.G. Hockaway (Royal West Kent Regiment) and Private Tall`s brother detailing the atrocities the regiment endured after the siege notably the 100 mile march of death from Kut to Baghdad. 2458 Private William Alexander Tall a native of Gravesend, Kent served in the Mesopotamian theatre with the 1st / 5th Battalion, Queen`s Own and was subsequently attached to the 2nd Battalion. Died 11.7.1916, Tall is buried in Baghdad (North Gate) Cemetery, Iraq (original letter from No 2. Infantry Home Office confirms this)
