Patinated bronze reclining nude woman holding flowers. A stylized JM hallmark on the base followed by "Fine Art Acquisitions" with the Copyright 1984. Dimensions are: 14" long, 5 1/2" wide, 7" tall. All measurements are approximate. Condition: Very Fine - Excellent. Provenance: From a Rhode Island Collection.
Clock case has brass overlay with bronze ormolu mounts and porcelain numbers to dial. French movement made by Japy Freres. Dimensions are: 14 1/4" tall, 7 1/2" wide, 5" deep. All measurements are approximate. Condition: Some damage to brass overlay. Pendulum hanging spring broken. Movement appears to work. No key. Good.
Cast bronze/brass gilt clock on a marble base, dial marked Frd. Berthoud, Paris circa 1860. Dimensions are: 16 1/4" tall, 16 1/4" wide, 7 deep. All measurements are approximate. Condition: Glass cover on back cracked. Metal spring to hang pendulum broken. Rear brass cover plate bent. Movement appears clean and complete. An excellent candidate for restoration. Couple of small chips to marble base. Fine.
Three bronze medallions depicting a jockey, golf player, and steam liner, each their own stands and one extra. The medallions are in the original wooden box, which has a bronze medallion of basketball players affixed to the lid. Dimensions are: Box - 5 1/2" long, 4" wide, 2 1/8" tall. His father, Hu Weide, was the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Qing Dynasty, and briefly served as the Premier of the Republic of China after Duan Qirui was ousted from Beijing in 1926. He was instrumental in bringing democracy to the Qing Dysnasty and was a member of the Chinese delegation at both the Treaty of Versailles as well as the Hague Peace Conference.Hu Shi Xi was a Chinese dignitary, the Chief Ambassador of the Republic of China in Canada, as well as an executive chief of embassies in many Spanish-speaking countries: Spain, Cuba, Argentina, Colombia, and others. In addition to his diplomatic skills, Hu Shi Xi was gifted artist, exhibiting his artworks at public exhibitions and diplomatic soirees to great acclaim. During his time posted in Europe and South America, he counted amongst his friends and visitors many other well known artists, such as Zhang Daqian.
