Siegel mit Petrus und Paulus. 5. - 6. Jh. n. Chr. B 1,8cm, H 1,5cm. Ovale Siegelplatte aus Bronze. Gegenständige Büsten des Petrus und Paulus. Jeweils dahinter und darüber im Zentrum ein Kreuz. Grünbraune Patina, intakt. Provenienz: Aus israelischem Besitz. Bei Sasson Ancient Art, Jerusalem. Registriert bei Israel Antiquities Authority 1990. Die im Mittelalter zweifelsfrei belegte Ausgestaltung der päpstlichen Siegel mit den gegenständigen Büsten der beiden Apostelfürsten Petrus und Paulus hat möglicherweise viel ältere Vorläufer. Überzeugend erklärt P. Kritzinger ein Siegel aus der ersten Hälfte des 5. Jhs. n. Chr. mit den Köpfen der beiden Apostel als frühes Beispiel für diese Tradition. Auch das vorliegende Stück könnte aus dem unmittelbaren Umfeld des Bischofs von Rom stammen. In Rom war die Verehrung von Petrus und Paulus besonders innig, einerseits aus naheliegenden politischen Gründen, andererseits auch, weil sich die Gräber der Gründerväter vor Ort befanden. Die damit einhergehende Reliquienverehrung führte dazu, dass zum Beispiel Berührungsreliquien an Kirchen an anderen Orten im Römischen Reich weitergegeben wurden. Vielleicht diente das vorliegende Stück zur Siegelung einer solchen Reliquie als Echtheitszertifikat. Vgl. P. Weiss - R. Versilberte Bronzeschale mit Dekor. Achämenidisch, 6. - 5. Jh. v. Chr. ø 17cm. Getrieben. Außen Bronze, innen versilbert. Von außen gepunzter Dekor, der innen nachziseliert wurde. Runde, flache Schale mit kleinem, wulstigen Rand. Im Zentrum eine Rosette, darauffolgend ein dekorloser Ring, ein weiterer Ring mit je vier dreiblättrigen Palmetten, im äußeren Ring jeweils zwei Paare sich gegenüber stehender Steinböcke, dazwischen vier Rosetten, Ringe durch konzentrische Kreise voneinander abgesetzt. Mit Kommentar von Ernst Langlotz und Schreiben von Anton Moortgat! Etwas verformt, außen grüne Patina, innen gereinigt und Hornsilberbelag. Am Rand Perlschnurdekor, das Griffende in Tierkopfform, auf dem Henkel gravierter Dekor. Mit Kopie der Rechnung! Dunkelgrüne Patina, kleiner Riss über dem Ringfuß, sonst intakt.
