MONTEGRAPPA FOUNTAIN PEN, "AZTEC".Body in solid bronze with gold finish.Nib in 18 Kts. gold. F-point.Limited edition. No box.Measurements: 14 cm. length; 16.32 mm. diameter. It is believed that the great Mexican cultures were so advanced that they created indigenous writing systems before the Europeans. This, in part, has inspired the creation of the Aztec Pen to honour the civilisations of Mexico. A solid bronze body with a gold finish on which, decorating each surface of the upper part of the pen are engraved images of Aztec gods, with patterns reminiscent of the distinctive Aztec architecture. At the bottom is the "Sun God" who was considered all-powerful and the primeval source of life, the supreme ruler of the current mythical age or Fifth Sun. On the clip of the pen is the sacrificial dagger, used by Aztec priests to send their offerings to the gods. The nib, on the other hand, is made of 18-karat gold. Point F.

Lot 149

OMAS "THE TRIP OF THE PHOENIX" FOUNTAIN PEN.Enamelled metal barrel.Silver nib. F point.Limited edition. No box.Measures: 13,5 cm. length; 15,30 mm. diameter.Omas Fenice Silver 88 "THE TRIP OF THE PHOENIX" fountain pen. A mythological bird that never dies, the Phoenix flies long distances ahead of us, observing with its keen eyes the field around us and the area ahead of us. It represents our visual ability to gather sensory information about the environment around us and the events unfolding in it. The Phoenix, with its perfect beauty, produces an astonishing exaltation combined with the dream of immortality". Alone in the aura of mystery that surrounds it is the Chinese Phoenix similar to the mythical Egyptian bird that continually rises from its own ashes. It represents the power and prosperity that were the exclusive attributes of the emperor and empress, the only people allowed to wear the Feng symbol. It is depicted in many ways, often with the forehead of a crane, the beak of a wild bird, the neck of a snake, the shell of a tortoise, the stripes of a dragon and the tail of a fish, considered to be the best attributes of these animals, and is the personification of the primordial forces of the Heavens. In its beak it carries the sacred texts, on its body are written the Five Cardinal Virtues, its song contains the five notes of the Chinese musical scale and its tail has the five primary colours: blue (east, spring and wood), red (south, summer and fire), white (west, autumn, metal), black (north, winter and water) and yellow (centre, emperor and earth). The two yang colours, blue and red, are balanced by the yin colours, white and black. The Phoenix enamel, elegant and proud, which presides over the barrel of the OMAS "The Trip of the Phoenix" fountain pen, copies it faithfully. The barrel of the pen, too, which comes in four versions, offers four of these colours. However, the metal finishes change: yellow enamel is combined with platinum, red with gold, blue with silver and white with bronze. On the top is a beautiful deep green jade reminiscent of the green of the plumage. The highly original clip is inspired by movement and harmony. The Phoenix flies from Greece to China, from the Parthenon skilfully reproduced on the cap, to the Summer Palace, symbolically miniaturised on the nib, bringing together for the Olympic Games two great civilisations whose influence has been fundamental to the development of humanity.Though geographically distant, both have given the world wisdom, philosophy, art and innovation. This little masterpiece comes in a precious wooden case, and its production has been entrusted, as always, to craftsmen and artists with unquestionable experience over many years.
