During the first three years of her life, he produced at least fourteen bronzes of her from a very small baby charting her growth into a young girl. 13 German 1914-1918 bronze Honour Crosses with swords, with various maker’s marks, 9 of which have ribbons, and another without swords (no suspender), mostly VGC; 3 Third Reich officer’s bullion embroidered cap cockades in wreath, including army officers in gold on pale khaki cloth backing; 6 army cloth trade badges, in as new condition; and 2 other items. An interesting French 12 bore centre fire rifled musket, converted from a percussion musket, which had in turn been converted from an 1822 flintlock, 55½” overall, barrel 38½” with tall folding rearsight and Tabatiere bronze hinged breech, numbered 889E; the lock engraved “Mre Rle de St Etienne” (faint); with walnut fullstock, butt retaining traces of inspector’s and store keepers marks, with regulation steel mounts, sling swivels, and original steel ramrod. GWO & C with good age patina to the stock (barrel and mounts pitted overall). Plate 10
A 5 shot .32” rimfire Whitneyville Armoury single action revolver, number 13029, 7¼” overall, blued octagonal barrel 3¼” marked “Whitneyville Armoury Ct. US/ Pat May 23. 1871”; bronze frame with detachable sideplate, spur trigger and birds head butt with rosewood grips. Good Working Order and Condition (some wear to cylinder). Plate 72
An impressive pair of 18 bore Bohemian long flintlock holster pistols, c 1740, 20” overall, flat topped slender bronze barrels 13” with blade fore sights and slight hollows to the breech tangs to act as rear sights, the breeches and top flats engraved with scrolls and panels; the brass partly rounded and slightly banana shaped locks engraved with scrolls and wavy borders and having bevelled pans, bevelled flat cocks and unbridled frizzens; walnut fullstocks carved with raised panels around the locks and mounts and with foliate scrolls beneath the fore end and around the breech tang and with horn fore end caps; the chiselled brass mounts comprise long spurred butt caps decorated with figures among scrolled foliage and with grotesque mask finials, open work sideplates with classical figure and scrolls, escutcheons with classical bust in panel surrounded by foliage and surmounted by coronet, trigger guards with bust amid foliage and foliate finials with feline mask, and hexagonal ramrod pipes, throat pipe finials with grotesque masks; with original horn tipped ramrods. Good Working Order and Condition (light surface rust to cocks, frizzens and frizzen springs, one barrel has some light dents, one throat pipe slightly dented). Would benefit from being lightly cleaned. A pair of “sleepers”. Plate 75
A cased 5 shot 54 bore Beaumont Adams double action percussion revolver of US Civil War interest, 11½” overall, barrel 6”, London proved, frame engraved “Adams, Patent, No 60,133P”, the cylinder just “60,133P”; with chequered walnut butt. Good Working Order and Condition, frame, barrel and cylinder retaining most of the original blued finish (left hand side of the breech slightly marked and scratched, the small screw missing from the rammer); in its green baize lined fitted oak case, lid with circular brass escutcheon engraved “K Heinzen, Louisville, 1862”, the inside of the lid having trade label (stained and worn) of Deane & Son, London Bridge, and containing a bag shaped copper powder flask by Dixon, double cavity bronze mould retaining traces of Adams shield mark (slightly battered), brass mounted ebony cleaning rod, and pewter oil bottle. Good Condition (some wear to lining and compartments, the bullet mould too large for the case). Plate 78 Note: Louisville was a Union city during the American Civil War and was under constant threat from the Confederates.
A Belgian bronze cannon barrelled and bronze framed flintlock boxlock pistol with spring bayonet, 10¼” overall, integral barrel 4½” with Liege proof mark, the otherwise plain frame engraved with dog tooth borders, with sliding top safety which also secures the frizzen and 5” spring bayonet beneath the barrel released by the sliding trigger guard, slab sided walnut butt carved with half flower heads and with chequered panels. Good Working Order and untouched condition. Plate 79
