A GERMAN SECOND WORLD WAR PERIOD KRIEGSMARINE VERDIGRIS BRONZE PAINTED ARMORIAL PLAQUE from the u-boat U13 sunk off Lowerstoft in the North Sea, 31st of May 1940 by depth charges from the British Sloop HMS Western, with no casualties. Together with associated later oak plaque. The shield 7.5" (20cm) x 6.25" (150mm). CONDITION REPORT: Most of the painted or enameled and coloured finish is flaking off; the shield itself being basically good.

§ Denis Mitchell (1912-1993)bronze,'Gurnic',initialled and dated '70, numbered 2, on black slate plinth,overall 11.25in.Denis Mitchell was a member of the St Ives Group and Dame Barbara Hepworth's chief assistant between 1949 and 1960.Gurnic was cast as an edition of six, this example exhibits the contrast between the highly polished and the patinated surface complexity.
