Exhibition of Irish Art and Manufactures gold award medal, 1882.Obverse: A recumbant blacksmith being aided to his feet by a female figure, 'Self Reliance' and 'Labor Omnia Vincit' (Work Conquers All). DixonOther Notes: 289 medals were awarded to participants in the Dublin Exhibition 1882. The bulk of these were bronze, however the recepient of a major award in a section was entitled to have it struck in gold at their own expense (£10). Additionally there were eight gold medals, one presented by the Exhibition Board, five by Sir John Arnott and two by Messers Cash and Co. Martin Mahony and Bros. Ltd received four medals in section XII, Class C (Textiles), two being those sponsored by Cash and Co.In 1750 Timothy Mahony established a small textile mill in Blarney, Co. Cork. His grandson Martin Mahony expanded the business and built a modern mill on the site in 1824. This mill was destroyed by fire in 1869. The building which was built to replace it had an additional two floors to accommodate the Mahony's expanding business. The business survived until 1973 when it closed due to competition from cheaper synthetic textiles. In 1975 the mill was bought by Christy Kelleher, a former employee, who established Blarney Wollen Mills. The company he established continues to trade from the mill built by Mahony in 1870.

1830s English ceramic anti-slavery wares.A Sunderland pink lustreware jug decorated to one side with a ship under full sail and to the other with an anti-slavery poem; and a Turnbull, Staffordshire earthenware plate with a scene of a prayer meeting in Uncle Tom's Cabin; also a 1983 Wedgwood jasperware dish commemorating 150th anniversary of the abolition of slavery in the British Empire in 1833; and an enamelled bronze figural match holder in the form of a slave, labelled to base, 'Gustavus Olouda Equiano'. (4) Height of jug 4.50Other Notes: Olouda Equiano (c. 1745-97) was a writer and abolitionist from the Igbo region of what is today southeastern Nigeria. Enslaved as a child, he was taken to the Caribbean and sold as a slave to a captain in the Royal Navy, and later to a Quaker trader. In 1766 he earned his own freedom by intelligent trading and careful savings. He was a prominent abolitionist and his autobiography, published in 1789, helped in the creation of the Slave Trade Act 1807, which curbed the slave trade in the British Empire. 4.50in. (11.4cm)

Pair of bronze palm tree lamps on floral plinth bases, 60cm high. Condition Report Height, 58.5cm/23in to the top of the metal column, excluding screw holes. Weighted bases. Later conversion to electricity? Probably early 20th century. Generally in good condition. One lamp base has two drill holes.

A pair of mid-19th century Rococo Revival gilt bronze two-light candelabra, each with a single porcelain figure of fruit and flower pickers, the figures each glazed in bright enamels and heightened in gilt, the whole raised on swept bases, h.31cm Condition Report / Extra Information Both bronze main candle arms are well restored, with old breaks, otherwise bronze is good and complete.Female figure - one foot missing, chips to flowers.Make figure - completely broken and re-glued.

A pair of Japanese Meiji period inlaid bronze vases, the waisted necks each with applied elephant trunk handles, the whole decorated with leaves and flowers in inlay and raised relief in silver, gold and copper metals, the bases with further inlaid trailing decoration, unsigned, h.33cm Condition Report / Extra Information Both vases - one with minor wobble to one handle but both complete, obvious handling wear and age patina all over, some minor surface scratches, grubby to extremities.
A mid-19th century French gilt bronze four glass mantel clock by Ferdinand Berthoud, the case of arched form with acanthus leaf chased egg and dart edged decoration, the circular convex white enamelled 4½"dial with twin winding holes for an eight day movement striking on a bell (with winding key but lacking mercury pendulum), h.38cm Condition Report / Extra Information Dial excellent, no chips/cracks or hairlines.Case tarnished all over but otherwise very good.Movement appears good.Glass good.No pendulum.Wrong winding key which does not fit.
A 19th century French gilt bronze mantel clock under glass dome, the architectural case surmounted with twin cherubs over white enamel dial (hairlines), two winding holes for a brass eight day cylinder movement striking on a bell (bell missing), the case with Sèvres style porcelain panels (two end panels missing), twin Corinthian columns, and all on heavy turned feet, h.54.5cm, the whole housed under glass dome on ebonised plinth, gross h.57cm Condition Report / Extra Information Cracks to the dial.Hands are misshapen.Porcelain panels missing from either side of the base.Finials to either side are loose.Dial signed Frodsham Paris.Chips to outside edge of dial.Clock width 38cm.
