Major Maurice George Perkins had previously served as a Corporal with the Gloucestershire Hussars before being promoted into the 2nd BN Monmouthshire Regiment on the 3rd September 1914. He embarked with the regiment landing in France on the 7th November 1914. He was appointed Lieutenant in December 1915 and Captain 1916 and Major 1919. He relinquished his commission in 1921. The forwarding slip for the Defence Medal confirms his rank as Major.
