Suzuki Chokichi, a pair of inlaid bronze vases, the rims of the two handled bottle shapes inlaid with silver wire clouds the body of one with a kingfisher and a crane facing it on the other, both birds amongst reeds, oval seal marks of Kako, 12cm (8.75 in) high (2) Literature: Kako was the art name for the Imperial Court Artist Suzuki Chokichi (1848-1919) who was director of the cast metal work department of the Kiritsu Kosho Kaisha Good
A silver wire inlaid bronze figure of a sage riding a carp, he sits casually reading a scroll as the fish leaps, 16cm (6.25 in) high Other Notes: The Japanese depict the immortal Kinko riding a carp in this way but the silver wire inlay on his clothes suggest that this is Chinese rather than Japanese. Kinko's origins were adapted from a Chinese immortal There are blind holes in the fish's fins suggesting that this was once fitted to some sort of base object.
A GENERAL OFFICERS MAMELUKE. A General Officers Mameluke 1831 pattern sword by Wilkinsons, number 26624. Four rosettes on the grips and crossed Baton & Sword on the crossguard. Complete with a brass scabbard and clean 31.1/4" blade. Etched with crisp designs of both General Officers Insignia and Crown above VR. With the initials E F C on the blade, the property of Sir Edward Chapman. KCB FRGS. General Sir Edward Francis Chapman was born on the 14th November 1840 and died in May 1926. Commencing his service in the Bengal Artillery in June 1858. Major General in 1889, Director of Military Intelligence 1896-1901.1 Retiring as Master Gunner St James Park in 1916 He fought in the Abyssinia War (Despatches and Medal) in the actions at Agoree and the Capture of Magdala. Then onto China afterwards Afghanistan (Chief of Staff to Lord Roberts). He was Mentioned in Despatches twice, awarded the Medal and two bars, also a Khedives Bronze Star. Ghazni and North Afghanistan Field Force, loater in the Kabul/Khandahar Force March to October 1880. Actions of Ahmed Khel then the 1st September Battle, serving in the Relief Force. Again in Burma in 1885. In 1891 he became ADC to Queen Victoria and was a KCB in 1905. Head of the Army in Scotland and Ceremonial Head of the Royal Artillery. See Illustration
AN RFC GT WAR MEDAL & 25th LONDON CYCLISTS TD etc. A British War medal named to Capt T H Vitty RFC. Thomas Henry Vitty resided at Northlake House, Kew Gardens, Surrey. He served as a Territorial Officer in the 4th Company London Electrical Engineers. Promoted Lieutenant in 1910, he was transferred during the Great War in an MIEE Flying Commission to the Royal Flying Corps Technical Branch. Later Temp Major RAF. A Victory Medal named to Major M H Easton. A Territorial Officers Decoration with hallmarks for London 1921, also an unnamed Defence Medal. The four mounted for wear, possibly related by marriage and mixed up some time ago. Both officers were from London and in the Territorial Force at the same time. Malcolm Henry Easton was serving in the 25th Battalion London Cyclists Regiment, spending 2 years and five months in India in the Gt War. At one time an officer in the London CC. A matching miniature group of four, mounted for wear. An Edward V11 Royal Engineers Officers Cap Badge in white metal, also a 'turning wheel' officers bronze RA cap badge, etc.
A BRONZE RFC OBSERVERS (BOHME's-11th) MEMORIAL PLAQUE. A Memorial or Death Plaque named to George William Bathurst Bradford, who was shotdown by the German Ace Erwin Bohme. Attached to 15 Squadron from the 8th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, he was Bohme's (11th Kill) and his second victim on the 4th February 1917. Bohme had returned early from leave, upon hearing of his Jasta's losses. George W B Bradford was the son of Lora Bradford of 32 Park Road, Kimberley, South Africa. Born in 1895, he enlisted in the 1st South African Infantry as Private 3901. His brother Francis Keysall Bradford served in both Wars, in the 3rd Queen Alexandria's Own Gurkha Rifles. In 1942 he died in Burma, commemorated on the Rangoon Memorial. The husband of Mrs A L Bradford, the daughter of Brig- General H G Lloyd CMG. DSO. They lived at Mooi River, Natal, S Africa. In George W B Bradfords will he left £171:16s- 6d to be handled by his Attorney, Charles Cyril Bradford, to his mother. A descendant of among others Richard and Anne W Woodygate, also William Keysall Bradford. Erwin Bohme was the protege of Boelcke with whom he collided in 1916 during aerial action. Boelcke the darling of the fledgling German Air Force, lost his life in the ensuing crash. G W B Bradford was an Observer in a BE2E No 7105 from (15 Sqdn), his Pilot was Sjt Frederick James Shaw, when shotdown over Hebuterne France around 15:30 hrs. They were on a Recce or Offensive Patrol, now commemorated on the Arras Flying Services Memorial. Ernst Bohme credited with 24 Kills was himself shotdown in flames, by Captain John Patten RFC and Lt Phililp Leycester observer RFC. Polished but very much legible, in its card cover.
