A bronze sceptre top comprising: a waisted and balustered bronze tube with flared mouth and everted flange; an opposed pair of ibexes(?) with feet and forelimbs each forming a ring. Cf. Moorey, P.R.S. Ancient Bronzes From Luristan, London, 1974, plate XI (A, B"). 250 grams, 30cm (11 3/4"). From the collection of a North West London gentleman; acquired in the 1980s. [2]. 2nd century AD. A flat-section bronze plate brooch of a stag with running lozenges to the flank keyed to accept enamel, stub legs, hatched neck, ring-and-dot eye, antlers above; hinged pin and catch to the reverse. Cf. Hattatt, R. Ancient and Romano-British Brooches, Sherborne, 1982, item 166. 2.87 grams, 26mm (1"). Acquired on the London art market prior to 1980. . Very fine condition.

A group of bronze brooches including: a gilt bronze button brooch of Avent and Evison's Type Dii with a stylised helmetted face and well-defined brow and nose; part of pin and catchplate to the rear; a brooch with recessed circles forming an equal-armed cross; part of pin and catchplate to the rear; a brooch with rope work border and animal to the centre, possibly a lion, looking back; part of pin and catchplate to the rear, and with old handwritten label; a brooch with double ridged border and with standing lion to the centre looking back; part of pin and catchplate to the rear, and with old hand written label; a silvered brooch with punched decoration forming an equal-armed cross; part of pin and catchplate to the rear. 44 grams total, 16-37mm (1/4 - 1 1/2"). A bronze seal engraved with a falconry or hunting scene, a bird of prey sat on the back of a crouching rabbit, engraved to the border with 'ALAS IE SV PRIS' translating to “Alas I am taken/caught” – what the rabbit is saying! 8 grams, 19mm (3/4"). A mixed group of pendants comprising: a gilt bronze disc with raised chi-rho symbol; a bronze disc with pellet border, incised quatrefoil; a lead-alloy disc with openwork cross, rope detailing; a discoid plaque with keyhole voids forming a cross. 12 grams total, 20-28mm (3/4 - 1"). 3rd century AD. A large bronze shield boss comprising a domed centre and slightly angled flange with four large rivet-heads; remains of iron cross-bar grip to the reverse with fixing studs. Cf.
