The Seal of Cardinal Giulio de' Medici (1517), believed to be by Lautizio of Perugia, a 19th century lead-backed electrotype copy of a positive impression, God watches over the Holy Family, the Cardinal's arms below, 108 x 68mm. Rather knocked and bruised. The original gilt-bronze matrix is in the Museo del Bargello, Florence.
The previously catalogued attribution to the Papillon collection is now believed to be incorrect. Sir Richard Shelley (b. 1514), Grand Prior of the Knights of Malta in England, later Turcopolier of infantry, cast bronze portrait medal, 1577, perhaps Venetian, perhaps by Bernard Rantwic, half-length bust right wearing armour bearing the cross of the Knights of Malta on breastplate, ruff collar and scarf tied at his right, 68.5mm (MI 127/74; cf Eim. 49; Schembri - ; cf Pollard 2007, II, 780; cf Kress 640; cf. Salton 151). An early aftercast (from a pierced example), very fine. Provenance:Ex. The Christopher Foley F.S.A. Collection of English Medals of the 15th-17th Centuries, Woolley & Wallis, 16 October 2014 (lot 58).
World War I, Pairs (2), War and Victory medals (Lieut E. G. Bayne), with Memorial plaque (EDWARD GORDON BAYNE); (H. P. Woodhouse), extremely fine; together with official commemorative medals, 1897, small silver, copper, 1902, bronze; U.S.A., Half-Dollar, 1907 O, very fine or better, copper and bronze cased. Lt. Edward Gordon Bayne, 2nd Bn (attached to the 1st Bn) East Surrey Regiment, killed 4 October 1917, aged 33 and remembered on the Tyne Cot Memorial. H.P. Woodhouse was related by marriage to E. G. Bayne.
An early 20th Century light oak haberdashery cabinet, 'Dudley & Co Ltd, showcase manufacturers, Holloway, London' The upper section fitted with eighteen glass paneled short drawers, each with bronze loop handle, the base section fitted with two full length cupboard doors enclosing one large storage space, raised on plinth base, width approx 112cm. Geoffrey Key (Manchester b. 1941)- 'Horse' Bronze sculpture, beautifully cast in a warm nutty brown and greening verdigris patination, the animal although of simple stylised form shows great power, strength and movement, sat on separate but original marble plinth base, the underside being signed by the artist and dated (19)89, horse approx 23cm high x 26cm long x 12cm wide, the base approx 30cm long x 15cm wide x 2cm high. Provenance: The Barn Gallery, Chestnut Farm, Kermincham, Cheshire, accompanying this lot is original bill of sale dated 17/10/91. NB: Geoffrey Key is now an artist of international repute, he has mounted major exhibitions in France, Hong Kong, the USA and Australia and is represented in important public and corporate collections, including the Salford and Manchester Art Galleries, the Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong, Jockey Club Hong Kong, Societe Roquefort, Chateau de St Ouen, and Perrier. An Edward VII bronze Visit to Scotland Police medal, dated 1903 Bears inscription PC J. McKinnon (Ref JCG page 184, 2957 of these were issued), a George V silver police Coronation medal dated 1911, awarded to PC W. Rae (Ref JCG page 184/5 plate 8 figure 14, 2800 of these were issued), also with this lot a copy of Scottish Insignia by John C Green.
A 9ct gold Burgh of Patrick Sports medal dated 1904 The award engraved 'Mr G Brodie Assistant Cashier presented 1904' (tested for 9ct gold, weight approx 11gms), two further Burgh of Patrick silver medals one dated 1896 2nd prize Tug of War won by James Stevenson, 4th prize won by James Stevenson Captain, cased bronze Govern Police Sports International Tug of War medal dated 1895, 4th prize. A bronze medal commemorating Erycius Puteanus, 19th Century A white metal medal commemorating Edward Prince of Wales wedding to Princess Alexandra dated 1863 in case of issue, a cased gymnastic bronze medal won by C. H. Thomas, a bronze medal dated 1848 commemorating King Leopold of the Belgiums, George III tuppence dated 1797, silver watch fob dated 1910, also a box containing Victorian and Edward VII Punctual Attendance medals.
A George V silver Special Constable Services Rendered medal Presented to William Ferguson for four years service, the medal dated 1914-19, also a facsimile of the medal from the Orders and Medal Research Society (Ref JCG page 63), a Queen Victoria visit to Scotland medal dated September 1842 (Ref JCG page 62), a bronze Edinburgh City Special Constable medal dated 1914 for long service (Ref JCG pages 80/1), also a book Scottish Insignia by John C. A Burgh of Calton Special Constable disc, early 19th Century The disc with the coat of arms of Calton dated 30th August 1817, with Special Constable no. 308, suspended on a linked chain, it is believed only three of these presented (Ref JCG page 41, plate 3, figures 8 & 9), a similar bronze Calton Special Constables disc lacking chain (Ref JCG page 41 plate 3, figures 8 & 9), a Queen Victoria Lion's Head cape/cloak clasp.
