A creamware Sleeping Boy, c.1815, the child asleep with a comfort blanket on a rectangular base, impressed in upper case 'F WEDGWOOD', chips, 12.2cm WS This model, which was popular throughout the late 18th and 19th centuries, was taken from originals by Duquesnoy and reproduced also in bronze, see lot 242. This example has an unusual sea-green glaze. The most likely candidate for the impressed mark is that of Francis Wedgwood (1800-1888) 'Master Potter of Etruria' who joined the firm in 1827. The rarity of the mark and stylistic grounds suggest a date not long after this. CONDITION REPORT: FROM THE WILFRED J SAINSBURY COLLECTION.

A French bronze mantel clock, 19th century, set with porcelain panels and painted cherub dial on shaped giltwood base, under a glass dome, dial inscribed 'Ellis, Exeter', back of dial stamped 'Japy Frères', 45cm high CONDITION REPORT: Glass dome - some damage. Dial slight wear to gilt. Loss of tiny red cabochons on edge of dial. Some wear to gilding on metal and on wooden base.

An exceptional pair of gilt-bronze wall lights, modelled as winged caryatids holding milk glass shades with frilled edges, 47cm high (2) Wall lights of this large size are unusual and suggest that they may have been made for one of the numerous 19th century exhibitions. The most likely are the 1851 London 'Crystal Palace' or the 1867 Paris 'Universal', both of which depict, in their respective catalogues, comparable pieces. At the time, designers drew upon Greek mythology very strongly and the Nymph, which forms the body of each bracket, is probably Amphitrite, consort of Posiedon, God of the Sea. They could be either French or English, but the former is more likely. The brackets were originally made for gas and the tap bears the influence of the designer, Dr Christopher Dresser, which would confirm a later date of the 1860s. The milk glass shades are in art nouveau style and contemporary with the electricity conversion, around 1900. They were probably blown in Stourbridge by Thomas Webb.

A French inlaid walnut and ebonised jardinière, late 19th century, of kidney shape, the lift-off lid with an inset porcelain plaque, over gilt bronze mounts and an undertier CONDITION REPORT: Warped top. Veneer lifted on one side, fading to surface, water damage to ebonised moulding. One ring handle missing from galvanised line. Ill fitting lid. 51.5cm across, 36cm deep.
