Dido Crosby MRSS (b.1961, British), pencil on paper, 'Orkney Ram, Rare Breed Center', signed, framed, mounted, and under glass, measuring 30cm x 41cm, & 54cm x 64cm overall. Note: Dido Crosby is a sculptor living and working in London. She gained a Zoology degree at Oxford University, and subsequently undertook courses in anatomical and life drawing, amongst other disciplines. Crosby has a number of works around the United Kingdom, including a large bronze horse overlooking Loch Fyne, in Argyll and Bute, Acton Court near Bristol, and internationally in Puerto Rico.

Rare officer's sword, Russian Empire, 18th century, inscription on the blade "VIVAT ANNA THE GREAT". The blade is straight hexagonal at the base. The blade is inlaid with brass plates with engraved inscriptions. On one side of the blade there is an inscription in Cyrillic script "VIVAT ANNA THE GREAT", on the other side there is an inscription "TO GOD AND THE FATHERLAND". Fine quality Gilded bronze hilt with a wooden handle wrapped in brass wire. Similar sabers were used by cavalry officers of the Russian Empire in 1730-1740. A 16TH CENTURY ITALIAN CINQUEDEA OR SHORT SWORD. The steel blade has a facet in the centre. The base of the blade is engraved and bears the inscription "Libertos", the bladesmith's mark, near the guard. The Ephesus consists of a bronze guard with floral decoration and an iron handle with a bronze pommel. The iron handle is inlaid with silver, some of which has been lost over time. In the upper part of the handle there is a round medallion with an image of a male profile in a laurel wreath. An excellent example of a large medieval sword. Very rare executioner's sword, sword of justice, Germany 1687. Massive steel blade with one fuller on each side. Engraving on the blade, on one side the inscription "IVSTITIA MANET IN AETERNVM 1687", on the other side "FIAT IVSTITIA AVT PEREAT MVNDVS", floral ornament and execution instruments. The Ephesus is of very high quality, made of gilded bronze with exquisite decoration. The handle is made of wood wrapped with silver wire and a velvet overlay. A superb museum quality item. French Napoleon III Diplomat Sword, mid-19th century. Beautiful sword from the Second Empire period. It is an elegant straight blade with three edges, decorated with engravings and perfectly preserved gilding. A very high quality gilded bronze hilt decorated with faceted steel inserts. On the protection shield, we find the imperial eagle. The pommel also features an imperial eagle. Gilded engraved bronze handle and with bands of burnished steel. Leather sheath with gold plated brass fitting at the bottom, no top fitting. A decorative chain connects the pommel and the guard. The Chinese Executioner Swords. East Asia, China, late Qing Dynasty, Boxer Rebellion period, ca. 1899 to 1901 C.E. An intimidating and sizable executioner's sword of variety known as a dao (or dadao, literally "big knife") with a curved, forged-steel blade bearing a sharpened edge. The blade is decorated with beautiful engraved decor with Buddhist "cloud" motifs. Small iron guard to position the hand and prevent slipping onto the blade, but of no defensive function. The blade tang is inserted inside a bronze handle that ends in a bone pommel. Boxer executioners visited villages, with the red streamers of their swords raised on the back, ferreting out foreigners, Christians, and those perceived too sympathetic to them, who were rounded up and decapitated for all to see. The very volume of their work dictated that they must act quickly and move on leaving carnage and a message in blood. An estimated 32,000 Chinese Christians and 200 foreign missionaries were executed. An estimated 100,000-300,000 Boxers were eventually defeated by 150,000 Chinese and European forces.

The gilt bronze hilt is in the form of a half-naked young man with a dagger in his hand, standing near a pillar with a chain, possibly Saint Sebastian. The scabbard is made of gilded bronze, richly decorated in Renaissance style, depicting medieval monarchs and nude figures of Adam and Eve. Chain for attaching a dagger to a belt. Wooden cross on a base, painted black, metal body of Christ in the center, inscription "INRI" on a bronze plate. sharpened blade inside. Such crucifixes were often used by missionaries on their perilous journeys. Very interesting artifact in excellent condition.

The fine gilt bronze grip rendered in Scythian motifs, including a lion crouching on the pommel and mounted shamans, one wearing an antlered headdress and the other a Phrygian cap; the guard of chiseled steel with fully-modeled lionÕs heads. A RARE ARMENIAN YATAGHAN SWORD, GOLD INLAY, 19TH CENTURY. The blade is deeply recurved, with three narrow fullers along the spine, the entire surface inlaid in elaborate running vine motifs in gold. The bronze hilt with elongated triangular ears, embellished with wolves hunting amongst vegetation and a large baldheaded, mustachioed male figure with arms upraised. Mid-19th century. The earliest Armenian historian, Moses of Khoren (c. 410-490 c.e.?) records in his History of Armenia, an ancient Armenian god known as Kund (or Bald) Aramazd who presided over Navasand, the Armenian New Year.
