GERALDINE THOMAS BLAKE (20TH CENTURY) 'PERSIMMON' study of the racehorse, dark patinated bronze, 35cm high, signed in full, on ebonised pine plinth Persimmon (1893–1908) was a British Thoroughbred race horse and sire. In a racing career which lasted from June 1895 to July 1897 he ran nine times and won seven races. His victories included the 1896 Epsom Derby, one of the first horse races ever filmed, by Robert W. Paul. His other important victories included the St Leger Stakes, the Ascot Gold Cup and the Eclipse Stakes. He was also notable for his rivalry with another English colt St Frusquin, who inflicted his only two defeats.

Athletics Fatima Whitbread signed Amateur Athletic Association 1880 to 1980 commemorative FDC London Oct 80. Fatima Whitbread MBE (born Fatima Vedad; 3 March 1961) is a retired British javelin thrower. She won in the event at the 1986 European Athletics Championships in Stuttgart, having broken the world record with a throw of 77. 44 metres in the qualifying round the previous day. She was the first British athlete to set a world record in a throwing event. Whitbread went on to win at the 1987 World Championships. She is also a two-time Olympic medallist, winning bronze at the 1984 Summer Olympics and silver at the 1988 Summer Olympics. Good condition.
