A large George II carved Portland stone sundial mid 18th century the 18in bronze dial signed Heath and Wing, London and with armorial coat of arms with latin motto amori et fideli together with indistinct monogram, calibrated with hours, minutes, compass points and later gnomon 140cm.; 55ins high The partnership of Heath and Wing were operating between 1751 and 1773 at various addresses around The Strand in London. (See engraving).
M. Saint Olive: A bronze relief plaque of a water sprite from the ship T/N Michelangelo signed M Saint Olive, and with foundry lozenge mark Valsuani 51cm.; 20ins high by 108cm.; 42½ins wide The T/N Michelangelo was launched on September 16, 1962 in Sestri shipyards. She sailed from Genoa to New York, the Caribbean and Rio de Janeiro. With the increasing costs of oil and Union demands the Italian government announced that subsidies would be withdrawn in 1975. Michelangelo and her sister ship the Rafaello wre sold to the Shah of Iran as barracks for army personnel. The were finally scrapped in Pakistan in 1991. the Valsuani foundry was started in the 1899 by the brothers Claude and Attilio Valsuani. Casting mostly small works for various artists using the lost wax technique (cire perdue) they worked for Renoir, Picasso Despiau, Paul Troubetzkoy, Matisse and Gaugin amongst others. Claude Valsuani died in 1923, but his son Marcele continued to produce fine quality bronzes until the 1970’s.
ŠRonald Cameron, born 1930 The Diver bronze signed R Cameron variegated brown patination 210cm.; 83ins high This lot is sold with a certificate of authenticity signed by the sculptor stating that it is number 4 out of an edition of 4. Ronald Cameron was born in London in 1930 and studied at the Camberwell College of Art from 1947- 53. After working as a graphic artist he was asked to make the TV puppets for Gerry Anderson’s films of Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet and Joe 90, producing 60 heads in all. Commissions for soldiers and farm animals followed for Britain’s and Airfix, which in turn lead to work modelling miniature figures as promotional gifts for companies such as Kelloggs and Shell Oil, together with sports trophies for events like Batsman of the Year, won by Clive Lord and the Professional Snooker championship won by Steve Davis. Commercial success meant that in the 1980’s he was able to concentrate more on producing larger scale sculpture for commissions and galleries including the Alwin Gallery in Mayfair London, where his work was exhibited alongside works by Elisabeth Frink and Henry Moore. Other exhibitions and commissions included: Whitford Gallery in Duke St., St James’s, London; Three relief figures for the Athens Olympics; Giant Panda collection boxes commissioned by Sir Peter Scott for the World Wildlife Fund; Miniature figures for the Chapman brothers |Holocaust|; A Nude figure which won the sculpture prize in the 2002 Royal Academy Summer Exhibition; An over life size bust of the Lord Chief Justice, Lord Woolf for the National Portrait Gallery
ŠRonald Cameron, born 1930 The Three Graces bronze, variegated brown/black patina, 213cm.; 84ins high This lot is sold with a certificate of authenticity signed by the sculptor stating that it is number 4 out of an edition of 4. This group of three figures representing the three continents, Africa, Asia and Europe was commissioned by the Cafmeyer Gallery in Knokke, Belgium and was exhibited on the sea front during Belgium’s Art Festival. It inspired The Wilkinson Sword Company to commission miniatures of the figures for the handles of their Millenium Commemorative swords.
Enzo Plazzotta, Italian, 1921-1981 Dieter’s Foal Bronze Signed and numbered 6 from an edition of 9 with Foundry stamp 155cm.; 61ins high by 131cm.; 51½ins long Enzo Plazzotta was born in Maestre, near Venice in 1921 and died aged 60 after having worked in London for more than half his life. He always maintained his links with Italy and had a home in Pietrasanto in Tuscany from 1967. Initially a student of architecture and sculpture, he decided to specialize in sculpture and studied at the Accademia di Brere in Milan. He gradually established himself as a portrait sculptor and also, like Degas, . Developed an interest in the portrayal of ballet dancers. Nureyev, Fonteyn, Sibley and Dowell were among the many dancers who came to his studio. This fascination with the human form manifested itself in a number of interpretations of the naked female form. His works can be found in many public and private collections including the Vatican. It has also been widely exhibited by many galleries including Wildenstein and Co and most recently in 2007 at the Robert Bowman Gallery in London. Helen Sinclair A.R.B.S., born 1954 Elegy Bronze Signed and numbered 4 from an edition of 5 163cm.; 64ins long Helen Sinclair was born in South Wales in 1954, and studied sculpture at Wimbledon School of Art (1972-76), after teaching for twelve years, she has been a full-time sculptor since 1988. The main body of her work is figuratively based, and her primary inspiration is the human body, in movement, at rest, clothed or nude. She exhibits widely throughout the UK, and is held in private collections throughout Europe, the USA, Australasia and the Middle East.
Geraldine Knight, 1933-2008 Figure on a Park Bench Bronze on slatted wood base Signed and numbered 1 of an edition of 5 162cm.; 64ins high by 48cm.; 19ins wide Born in 1932 Geraldine knight studied at the Brighton College of Art; 1949-1952 and then at the Royal Academy Schools; 1952-1956. After training to be sculptor, Geraldine Knight was awarded the Prix de Rome scholarship, enabling her to spend two years in Italy. She has since produced a variety of sculptures and architectural decoration. Her life size bronze animals include a flock of sheep, exhibited at the Royal Academy summer exhibition of 1986. As well as portrait busts and public sculpture, Knight has working on stage sets and contributed to building restoration projects. From 1960 she taught life drawing and sculpture at the Sir John Cass School of Art, Twickenham College of Technology and Kingston College of Art. She now lives and works between Oxford and Venice.
Helaine Blumenfeld, born New York 1942 Venus 1991 Travertine Marble Unique 203cm.; 80ins high by 70cm.; 27½ins wide Helaine Blumenfeld is recognized as one of Britain’s leading contemporary sculptors working in marble and bronze. In a career spanning more than four decades, her work has been shown in over 70 exhibitions worldwide. She has completed more than 80 commissions and her sculptures have been sited in public and private settings throughout the UK, Europe and the USA. Elected Vice-President of the Royal British Society of Sculptors (2004-2009), in 2007 she became the first and only female winner of the prestigious International Sculpture Prize, ‘Pietrasanta e la Versilia nel Mondo’. That year Blumenfeld exhibited at Het Depot Sculpture Gallery in Wageningen, The Netherlands. This was a major presentation which Helaine considers to be one of her most important public exhibitions. In 2010 ‘Blumenfeld in the Town Hall, Oslo’ took place under the curatorship of Anfinsen Kunst. Erik Anfinsen has represented Blumenfeld in Scandinavia since 1986. Blumenfeld has used her public profile to broaden access to and appreciation of her medium, initiating and organizing regular exhibitions at the Harold Martin Botanical Gardens in Leicester and at the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge. In July 2011 she was one of the few non-British artists ever to have been awarded an Honorary OBE for her outstanding contribution to art.
Lucy Kinsella, born 1960 Moondance Bronze Signed and numbered 2 of 4 180cm.; 71ins wide Lucy Kinsella graduated from Loughborough University B.A. (hons) Fine Art Sculpture in 1989. Exhibitions include; Chelsea Flower Show, Burghleigh Sculpture Park, Olympia Art Fair, ‘The Sculptors Show’, Osborne Studio Gallery, London. Her work is represented in collections in Ireland, Belgium, Japan, China, Channel Islands, United States, France, South Africa, Dubai, Sweden, New Zealnd and throughout the UK.
Simon Wyard The Bathers Bronze Signed and numbered 1 from an edition of 12 49cm.; 19ins wide by 61cm.; 24ins long For four years he studied painting and printmaking for a degree in Fine Art at Maidstone College of Art. From there he went on to Goldsmith’s College where he trained as an art teacher and worked on figurative ceramic bowls and sculptures. Since then he has worked loosely in pencil, charcoal, ink and paint to help produce his finished sculptures in clay. Between the years of 1988 and 1995, Simon lived in the South of France exhibiting his work and developing a knowledge of the region’s unique cave paintings. Since 2001 he has been largely concerned with the human figure as a point of departure to produce harmonious forms that suggest an intimate connection to the landscape. Simon has travelled extensively and now resides in a coombe in Exmoor National Park.

All the masters in Irish art from the eighties and nineties are well represented here, although some, for example those by Patrick Collins and Gerard Dillon, come from an earlier generation.
