US CIVIL WAR-GETTYSBURG BATTFIELD RELIC DESK PIECE, nice example mostly likely done within 20 years of the end of the War, the base is made of a local hardwood 5” x 1 ¾” x 1 ¼”, mounted into it is a bronze cannon ball fuse, a period ink well, & a 2 ring Confederate Gardner bullet along w/ a 3 ring Union bullet (mini ball), on the side in old ink is “Little Round Top”, a nice display, VG+
WW2 GERMAN LUFTWAFFE HONOUR GOBLET (EHRENPOKAL) AWARDED TO OBERFELDWEBEL WOLFGANG MILLATZ WHO WAS KILLED DURING TRIALS FOR THE ME-262 JET FIGHTER AIRCRAFT IN 1944, the goblet is a fine uncleaned example, engraved to the bottom ring ‘OBERFELDWEBEL WOLFGANG MILLATZ AM 2.11.42’. The award is impressed to the bottom ‘FEINSILBER ALPAKA AUFLAGE’ and makers mark of ‘JOHN.WAGNER & SOHN’. The goblet is in super uncleaned condition. Wolfgang Millatz was born in Berlin on 29th November 1914. He qualified as a pilot in the Luftwaffe, gaining his pilots qualification badge, he was also awarded the German Cross in gold, EK1, EK2, Bomber clasp in Bronze, Silver and gold along with this honour goblet. In 1944 he was at the rank of Leutnant serving at the Messerschmitt factory at Schwabisch Hall (Sonderkommando OKL). On 25th November 1944 he was flying a Me-262 A-2a Jet Fighter aircraft with code ‘NY+BS’ when the aircraft crashed on landing approach during trials at the air station. Millatz was killed in the crash.
1 Large 19th century master signed metal works pictorial button.From the collection of the late Shirley Case of Missouri. This button is an extremely fine and desirable example of Japanese Shakudo work. The sea dragon in solid gold is finely detailed and inlaid into a solid thick bronze base with a lower relief of the sea water and waves and birds in gold flying over the top. This incredible example is signed on the reverse in a full large master craftsman signature. The size, the thickness, the fineness and the signature all contribute to the rarity of this great button. During the civil wars in China, 1900–1, Whiting drew for The Graphic, also covering the 1904–5 Russo-Japanese War. Showed at RA, also NPS, RP, RI and RWS, all of which he was a member. Among his foreign awards was a silver medal at Paris Salon in 1926 and a bronze medal at Anglo-German Exhibition, 1913. Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, holds his work.
