Tight invisible cracks to rear legs. Glaze pitting. Loss under the base adjacent to a firing flaw. Slight losses to the applied work. Hole to the rear, possibly for a bronze candlestick. Ewe - right ear with loss. Slight losses to the applied work. Glaze pitting. No repair.

The candelabra have previously been drilled for electricity, these alterations are all fairly descreet and around the rear. Gilding with some wear but to pleasing effect. Minor chips to marble edges.

The crop may have been deformed toward the end (see images). No noted scratches. General wear. Patina perhaps slightly on the dry side. Very dusty would benefit from a clean.

A rare 'Alfred the Penguin' mascot by Jacques Cartier, French, 1925-29,designed by the renowned sculptor Jacques Cartier, created in the workshop of Henri Rouard Paris, signed Jacques Cartier, with 'depose' stamping and the workshop H. Rouard in polished nickel plated bronze and black patina, with original neck tag with Alain Saint-Ogan logo stamped on both sides, in exceptionally fine original condition, 13cm high, mounted on a radiator cap, 15.5cm overall. Footnotes:'Alfred the Penguin' was a popular cartoon character in the French Sunday paper 'Zig et Puce' created by Alain de Saint-Ogan' and he was originally fitted to the car as a charm to ward off evil spirits on the roads, Charles Lindberg even had an Alfred charm in his plane 'Spirit of Saint-Louis' for his solo crossing of the Atlantic Ocean. It's was marketed as a good luck mascot in the Cartier showroom, and produced by Henri Rouard at 10/12 rue de l'asile, Popincourt, Paris from 1925-1929 at a very expensive price of 260 French Francs.For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com
A fine presentation cast bronze sculpture of the 1954-55 Grand Prix Mercedes-Benz W196 'Silver Arrow' Streamliner, produced by the Hans Mayr Foundry of Munich, mid-1950s,solid cast bronze sculpture of the famed W196, one of a strictly limited number of only 50 examples commissioned by Daimler-Benz AG of Stuttgart and Streamliner engineer Ludwig Kraus from a design by chief sculptor Helmut Hiltmann, produced in 1956-57, depicting the car in Streamliner guise, measuring 27cm long, mounted on a grey marble base with plaque to front edge inscribed 'Mercedes-Benz Grand Prix Rennwagen Gebaut Nach der Formel I 1954 und 1955', measuring 30.5cm long overall, contained in modern bespoke fitted presentation case by Jewel Display Ltd of Thetford, in dark blue leather with satin lining and 'Three-Pointed Star' emblem to inside of lid.
