Two of the bows have repaired fractures by the central knot, the others have one or two small firing cracks. Similar small cracks to one of the bowls, and one of the drip pans. Condition Report: The chandelier bears the usual minor marks, knocks and scuffs overall consistent with age and use.The gilding has a coppery tinge to it, and may have been refreshed. There is some rubbing and irregularity to the surface too, and it would benefit from a gentle clean.There is a thin firing crack to the base of one of the arms, and the scrolls suspending pendants issuing from the stem are a bit bent. There is some radial movement between some of the arms and the body, though all appear securely attached.Inside the body, the wires are held in place underneath a later wooden circular plaque. The chandelier has been later wired externally, please have this tested by a certified electrician prior to use. A handful of pendants have chips and cracks, others may be missing or replaced. Delaunay's design, in turn, was strongly influenced by engravings by Enea Vico. A study of a similar ewer was included in Vico's 'Antique Vases' series published in Italy circa 1543 (plate 6). Other mounts to the circlet also have some radial movement. The glass plate inside the corona is cracked. Other metal elements are also bent particularly the stems suspending the swags, the stars to the ball knop, and to a small extent the circlet itself. One of the swans has drilled holes to the neck. A patinated bronze model of the Farnese Hercules, second half 19th century, cast after Glycon's Roman marble and probably a Greek (Lyssippian?) original, portrayed as heroically nude and standing resting against the Nemean lionskin, draped on a tree stump, the Apples of the Hesperides held in his right hand behind him, 41cm highThe famed statue of Hercules, first reliably recorded in 1556 by Ulisse Aldrovandi was unearthed during excavations at Rome's Baths of Caracalla, and was quickly acquired by the Farnese, whose first courtyard at the Palazzo Farnese housed the massive piece until 1787.The Farnese Hercules is now held at the Museo Nazionale in Naples.

After Clodion (French, 1738-1814), a fine and large French patinated bronze mythological group, the Triumph of Bacchus, late 19th century, with two dancing maidens raising an infant Bacchus on their shoulders, one wielding a thyrsus, the other a tambourine, the circular naturalistically cast socle inscribed Clodion to the maquette, on a further canted square section base, 85cm high overallCondition Report: The bronze bears the usual minor marks, knocks and scuffs overall consistent with age.The patina is a warm chocolate brown overall. The surface is relatively glossy and even, aside from a handful of areas particularly to the upper bodies and arms of the maidens and the infant's back where there are traces of darker and coarser surface coating, probably a lacquer. Aside from this and a small number of tiny casting inconsistencies including an aperture to the base of circa 0.2cm, commensurate with the manufacturing process, and some scratching to the bracket feet, the bronze is in perfectly presentable condition overall. Lot 266

Manner of Frederick William MacMonnies (American, 1863-1937), an Art Nouveau patinated bronze model of a dancing Bacchante, circa 1900, the maiden portrayed nude and holding aloft a staff and bunch of grapes, on a stepped rectangular plinth, 47.5cm highThe present lot is stylistically and thematically similar to MacMonnies' renowned Bacchante and Infant Faun of circa 1893-4, a cast of which is in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. The exuberant pose and style are typical of the French Beaux-Arts movement that became fashionable in the US and particularly New York towards the end of the 19th century.Condition Report: The bronze bears the usual minor marks, knocks and scuffs overall consistent with age.The patina is a rich dark brown overall, though it is a little scratched in places, particularly to the rear left shoulder. There are possible traces of varnish or polish where the surface is a little more granular, including to the underside of the left arm, where there are also some shallow inconsistencies in the surface (likely due to casting).The object the Bacchante is raising in her right hand may be lacking a piece.There is a dent to the rear left corner of the base, and another, smaller to the front left corner. The underside looks as though it was at one point mounted to a secondary base.The bronze would benefit from a gentle clean to address the dust in the recesses.Condition Report Disclaimer

Chiswell Street, LONDON to top, mounted to a 19th century stone baluster plinth, 140cm high overallCondition Report: Marks, scratches, abrasions commensurate with age and use.Some minor old losses, including some nibbling to the base.The surface is weathered overall, consistent with outdoor exposure. The sundial itself is associated to the plinth. The diameter of the sundial is larger than the top of the plinth. A pair of French gilt bronze, patinated bronze and white marble mounted figural four light candelabra, by Emile Colin & Cie, Paris, late 19th century, in Louis XV taste, each modelled with a draped amorino holding aloft four scrolled candle branches terminating in flowerhead sconces, standing on circular plinths with writhen and imbricated laurel rims, above further square bases on foliate bracket feet, the plinths impressed E. COLIN & CIE PARIS, approximately 51cm highÉmile Colin ran his prolific workshop at 29, rue de Sévigné, Paris, from 1882 until his death in 1899. The foundry produced fine decorative works of art such as the present candelabra, but also cast bronzes for sculptors such as Rozet, Messagé, Germain and Marioton. After Colin's death in 1899, the firm obtained the Grand Prix at the Paris Universal Exhibition of 1900.Condition Report: Minor marks, knocks and scuffs overall commensurate with age and use, and the gilding is a little rubbed and slightly spotted mainly to the sconces.Two interior sconce liners are missing. One flowerhead has broken off, though it is sold with the lot.One or two branches are a little bent.Each of the marble bases has a small chip, and some further nibbling. An Italian patinated bronze portrait bust of Julius Caesar, after the Antique, later 19th century, possibly Chiurazzi, Naples, portrayed truncated and facing forwards, on an integral waisted circular socle, 55cm high, 25cm wideThis bust is likely derived from the Roman Chiaramonti Portrait bust (in the Vatican Museums), which is one of only two accepted portrait busts of Caesar. The bust represents a grave and idealised leader, and may have been created posthumously during the reign of Augustus in the 1st century BC, when Caesar was widely admired.

A set of three framed gilt bronze Bacchic relief roundels after Claude Michel, called Clodion, (French, 1738-1814), called Clodion, 19th century, each depicting a figural scene with nymphs and infant Satyrs, later framed, 31cm diameter, the frames 43cm squareThe models for the present lot are habitually attributed to Clodion. Two are illustrated in Pierre Verlet, Les Bronzes Dorés Français du XVIII siècle, Picard, 1987, p. 162 (fig. 197). Those are said to have decorated the base of a clock. The third, with the truncated image of the maiden, is also to a model attributed to Clodion. A terracotta version of this is in the National Gallery of Art, Washington, Accession number 1942.5.31. Condition Report: The roundels bear the usual minor marks, knocks and scuffs overall commensurate with age. There are some small knocks and scratches to the gilding overall.The roundels are held in place with pins (probably drilled), and their tops are visible.The egg and dart borders were cast separately from the backs of the roundels, and in one or two cases there is some slight movement between the two, though they remain securely attached. The velvet is a little faded, and there are shallow chips to the edges of the frames.These have not been inspected unmounted. Condition Report Disclaimer

A Continental, probably Italian, patinated bronze model of Mercury after Giambologna, last quarter 19th century, on a stepped circular verde antico plinth, and presented on a further Italian green serpentine marble pedestal, the bronze 77cm high, overall height approximately 218cmCondition Report: The bronze bears the usual minor marks, knocks and scuffs overall consistent with age.The bronze has a dark brown patina, which is relatively matte overall. There is also some slight mottling to the surface, particularly the chest.The Caduceus is a little loose and slightly bent.There is a repair to the raised big toe. The smaller socle on which the bronze is perched has a handful of small chips to the edges.The top of the plinth has a repaired chip, and there are further smaller nibbles and chips to the rim. There is an old restoration to the moulding below, and there is an area of loss to the circular moulding above the base.The lot includes one large columnar pedestal. The first plinth mentioned in the cataloguing is the smaller one on which the bronze perches directly. Condition Report Disclaimer
