A BRONZE GARLIC HEAD BOTTLE, SUANTOUPINGWestern Han DynastyThe globular lower body rising from a tall, flared foot, to a slender neck decorated with a ridge at mid-height and terminating in a bulbous, garlic-shaped head, the surface patinated to a dark hue with variegated patches of malachite-green and copper-brown, the base later inscribed. 41cm (16 1/8in) highFootnotes:Provenance: A private European collection formed prior to the 1960s, and thence by descent.Bottles of this shape, used for cereal wine, became popular during the Warring States (475-221BC) period and remained in fashion throughout the Han Dynasty (202BC-220AD), when the so-called 'garlic head' neck became less popular. Whilst they were prototypes for pottery vessels, the latter were not practical for everyday use due to the porosity of low-fired pottery. One of the two handle rings is more damaged than the other, possibly restored. Ding censer: encrustation on the inside. One of the leg has been restored.

Long repaired hairline starting at the shoulder and progressing vertically for whole length and going across the base, with associated infilling and overpainting. This looks like it might have originally been a firing crack progressing into a hairline. Approx. 6cm long dark line above the foot, which however does not appear to be a hairline as it is not split to the surface and it does highlight under UV inspection. PORTMEIRION POTTERY LIMITED EDITION REPLICA OF THE F.A. CUP, a scale replica of the Football Association Challenge Cup, modelled by Fred Hackney of Brunswick Ceramics Services, Stoke-on-Trent, with certificate No.19 of 500, to commemorate the 1980 F.A.Cup final between West Ham United and Arsenal, played at Wembley on May 10th 1980, West Ham won the cup by one goal to nil, separate base and cover, platinum lustre glaze with bronze coloured glaze internally, height 66cm (Note: after lengthy contract negotiations Portmeirion were given permission by F.A. Secretary Ted Croker to produce these replicas in 1979, the modeller Fred Hackney inspected the trophy at Highbury, Arsenal (who were holders at the time), unfortunately the production costs including the use of a platinum glaze proved prohibitive to the manufacturer and the replica never went into full commercial production, it is estimated that less and two hundred were produced before the project was abandoned in 1980) (condition: some nibbles on the inner rim of lid and base, some of lustre rubbed and scratched especially on the top side of the bottom segment)

An early 20th century French Louis XVI style parquetry semanier, with marble top and seven ormolu mounted drawers, on scroll feet, width 80cm, depth 44cm, height 135cmCONDITION: Pinkish marble top in good order, overall colour a good rich mid to light toffee tone, a number of small losses of veneer particularly to the interspaces between the drawers, the drawers have original handles and never hand locks, mounts dulled down to a flat bronze tone.
