Major General Sir John Younghusband K.C.M.G. K.C.I.E. C.B.,,mounted insignia stated by the late owner to pertain to this officer. Two scarlet cloth and gold lace gorget patches complete with the correct gilt mounted buttons, a gilt metal crowned 'VR' pouch badge, a pair of gilt brass large size crossed sword and baton shoulder insignia and one only small size, a Victorian period cast brass pagri badge for the Corps of Guides, a bronze shoulder title, 'Guides', one large, one small tunic buttons, crossed sword, baton laurels (the small rubbed). Good condition. (10)Footnotes:Major General Sir John George Younghusband (1859-1944), RMC Sandhurst, commissioned 17th (Leicestershire) Regiment before transfer to the Indian Establishment, Queen Victoria's Own Corps of Guides, thereafter he participated in an extraordinary number of campaigns, culminating with a senior command in WW1. Invalided out in 1917 as a result of his many wounds garnered over the years. King George V appointed him Keeper of the Royal Jewels at the Tower of London. A cloisonné tanto sword guard believed to be circa 1550, of hexagonal form and bronze applied with plum blossom decoration, 5.5cm long, with a certificate and envelope inscribed 'Wittmer Tsuba'Qty: (1)NOTESA manuscript label is included inscribed 'Tanto: Tetsu, gin, kin, shibuichi, plum blossom ca 1550 $275. The envelope for the certificate is inscribed 'Wittmer Tsuba'. O.W. Wittmer was a leading collector in this field and much of his collection has been dispersed at auction including Bonhams.
