1958 COMMONWEALTH GAMES - NIGERIA Hall-marked Silver medal won by Smart Akraka of Nigeria in the Men's 4 x 110 yards relay Final at the British Empire and Commonwealth Games held in Cardiff , Wales between July 4th and August 2nd 1958. Comes with official case inscribed with the Games motif. The medal is silver and is hall-marked with inscription on the reverse. England won gold in the 4 x 110 yards relay in a time of 40.72 seconds, Nigeria won silver in a time of 41.05 seconds and Australia won bronze with a time of 41.64 seconds. Smart was one of the four Nigerian runners in the Final. This was the only Athletics medal won by Nigeria and they only won 2 medals in the entire Games, the other being bronze in Heavyweight boxing. Scarce item . The medal is in good condition , the box has a few scuffs. Good
CHAIM STEPHENSON (1926-2016) SCULPTURE - THE WARRIOR made in 1971 from bronze resin over metal wire, the Warrior holding a shield and sword. 180cms high *Chaim Stephenson was a well known sculptor, born in Liverpool to Russian Jewish Immigrant parents. He exhibited widely and passed away last year at the age of 89. This sculpture was previously sold by Woolley and Wallis, Lot 523 on the 21st of October 2015.

A 20th century bronze / brass tazza comport raised on a ceramic plinth base having rococo style tripod legs cast in relief with scroll work, leaves and flower heads and three carps holding a ebonised bowl having helix border work and a good bowden rose medallion to center with ocher red makers mark to underside of base. Measures: 32cm wide.
