A rare Turkish silver-mounted scabbard,Late 17th century for a short broadsword, with leather-covered wooden body, silver-gilt mounts including large locket decorated with repoussee nielloed foliage, a small shaped band beneath fitted with two rings for suspension and plain shaped gilded chape; An Indo-Persian forked spear, 19th century, comprising bifurcated blade with reinforced tips, chiselled at the base with exotic animals within a gilded frame and tubular socket decorated with scrolling gold foliage within linear frames; and a Chinese archaic bronze mace head, of tapering tubular form, with raised mouldings and a series of pronounced nodules The first: 59cm; 23.25in (3)
A fine horseman's mace in the Hungarian fashion,circa 1620-50 with compact bulbous head of gilt-bronze formed with an arrangement of ten robust low flanges with integral concave ribs between, retained by a moulded button finial also of bronze, on its original long haft encased in leather (probably also the original), the haft sheathed in gilt-bronze at both ends, and the lower collar retained by a transverse bolt hollowed for a thong and cast with raised rosettes over the apertures 93.5cm; 36.75in The compact shape of the head is unusual for the period and evidently the product of the Turkish sphere of influence, in turn rooted in types of maces common to 13th century Iran. A comparable Medieval example is preserved in the Nasser D.Khalili collection, Acc. No. MTW 1370 (see D. Alexander, 1992, Cat. No. 23, p.64) The head also compares with that of a Saxon parade mace of carved hardstone, recorded in the inventory of the Electoral Kunstkammer in Dresden taken in 1619 (Dresden Rustkammer, Inv. Nr. T. 307)
A rare lugged spear,8th/10th century in excavated condition, with long slender blade of flattened-diamond section, and slender fluted rectangular socket formed with a pair of lugs at the base; a spearhead, 17th century, with leaf-shaped blade of diamond section, and tapering socket of tubular section; a North West Persian bronze axe head, 2nd millennium BC, with tubular socket drawn-out at the rear to four shaped spikes; an axe head, 14th/15th Century, in excavated condition, with slightly curved wedge-shaped blade drawn-out at the rear to a shaped socket, on a modern haft; and a large knife blade, perhaps 17th century, in excavated condition the first: 62.8cm; 24.625 in (5) A spear-head of very similar form is preserved in the Museum fur Deutsche Geschichte, Berlin. A pair of late 19th Century French bronze and ormolu candelabra, each modelled as bronze maidens holding aloft ormolu three light candelabra, each with a flaming torch finial supporting a garland of flowers, the three lights with beaded detachable sconces supported on stylised scrolling birds heads and scrolling supports, the maidens each standing on white marble bases, each with an ormolu frieze of classical cherub scenes and on square plinths, apparently unsigned, height 68cm
