A BRONZE FIGURE OF 'THE BATHING VENUS' LATE 19TH CENTURY The beauty modelled nude and standing by a shrouded urn, turning handle to the side 34cm high On a carved alabaster pedestal base, 18.5cm high, 52.5cm high overall Condition Report: Please note the measurement has been updated, the overall height it 52.5cm (the separate elements are as originally published)The bronze with marks, knocks, scratches, abrasions, some scuffs and wear to the surface, the underside of the base of the bronze has the securing screws and this has rust and corrosion, this rim has indentations and is misshapen.The alabaster pedestal has cracks and splits, the centre appears to be resin filled (coloured to match the stone) and this secures the metal pin. AFTER JOSEPH DESCOMPS (FRENCH, 1872-1948), A BRONZE FIGURE OF A LION20TH CENTURYThe beast portrayed roaring on a naturalistic base, mounted on an oval marble base, signed to cast, 25cm high, 37cm wideProvenance:Woodleys, near Woodstock, Oxfordshire Joseph Descomps exhibited at the Salon d'Automme, the Tuilleries, and the Salon des Artistes Francais, where he won a third class in 1921, second class in 1925, and first class 1928. He is well known for his Art Deco style figures, modelling works bronze, terracotta, ivory and marble, and he also produced ceramic models for the Sevres factory.
A magnificent late 18th Century French Boulle Bracket Clock, the top surmounted with a gilt bronze figure of a classical Woman in military attire holding a spear and oval shield, above a very ornate dial with Roman enamel numerals, crested with two masks, under a coronet, the movement with outside count wheel striking on a steel bell, and with Medusa mask pendulum, three female classical figures below the dial and a mask of Bacchus on four caryatid headed legs, all mounted on a conforming bracket. 153cms x 57cms (60'' x 22 1/2'').
