A Rare 16th Century Bronze Mortar attributed to Wilhelm Hachman, Cleve, dated 1571. The protuberant handles cast in the form of a double scrolling sea creatures, with a band of text to the rim and foot interspersed with small leaping animals, bird and flower motifs: The pestle of later date with T-bar handle, 7¼ ins (18.5 cns) in length. The mortar 5 ins (12.5 cms) high, 5¼ ins (13.5 cms) in diameter.
A Large 17th/18th Century Ebony Collector's Cabinet with Painted Ornamentation. The chest surmounted by a moulded pediment bearing a gilt bronze heraldic cartouche held between two cherubs. The numerous drawers faced with small ripple moulded panels intricately painted with various scenes depicting figures on landscape and adorned with metal metal mounts. The central break front tabernacle door centred by a gilt bronze figure of Venus in an arched niche below a scrolling pediment on Corinthian style columns. The table form base with turned legs united by a turned centre stretcher, 81 ins (206 cms) high, 64 ins (162 cms) wide, 23 ins (58 cms) deep.
Four Candlesticks: A dark patinated bronze pricket candlestick with a knopped stem above a triangular base raised on paw feet, 17¾ ins (45 cms) in height. Another late 17th century pricket candlestick 15¾ ins (40 cms) in height. A slender 18th century brass candlestick with sliding candle ejector, 12¾ ins (33 cms) in height. A blade knopped baluster candlestick with integral socket an a screw on dished drip tray base, 9½ ins (24 cms) in height.
A Large 17th Century English Bronze Whitechapel type Mortar raised on a substantial turned wooden pedestal. The mortar decorated with a cast band of repeated scallop shels and foliate motifs and measuring 11½ ins (29 cms) in height, 14 ins (36 cms) in diameter. The turned pedestal elevating it to 35½ ins (90 cms) in height overall.
A Small 17th Century Italian Two Doored Credenza (once painted). The doors divided by applied moulding into two panels with scrolling cartouche appliqués to the centres and bronze knop handles to the cross rails. The breakfront base raised on decoratively moulded feet, 35¼ ins (89.5 cms) high, 27½ ins (70 cms) wide, 12½ ins (32 cms) deep.
A 16th Century Spanish Wrought Iron Processional Cross. The crucifix finial mounted with a bronze figure of Christ to the front and a rosette to the rear, above a pierced two tiered chamber with spired finials, and a blade knopped cylindrical pole socket. Mounted on a later velvet clad base 27½ ins (70 cms) high.
An 18th Century German Bronze Six Branch Chandelier. The fillet knopped stem above a globe pendant enriched with punchwork, and having two discoid platforms; one cut with dovetails for slot-on reflectors above the other pierced with mortise holes numbered by a series of dots coinciding to the tenons of the scrolling candle arms. The piece surmounted by a bird finial with suspension ring, 18½ ins (47 cms) high, 24 ins (61 cms) wide.
Pair of large bronze Japanese stick stands of hexagonal section with slightly outswept key fret decorated rim, the bodies decorated with panels of landscape scenes in a band to the top and foot, central incised diaper band and raised waist band with relief decoration of masks and fruit, Meiji. (2)
Paul Philippe (1870-1930). An Art Deco gilt bronze and ivory figure of a dancer, her arms raised and outstretched, stamped with the 'Bronze A.G. Paris' mark, on a stepped onyx plinth bearing the signature of Philippe (38.5cm). Condition Report: Repair to right foot, later glued, fingers all intact, other general ware commensurate with age.
A rare mid 17th century English provincial bronze mortar possibly Yorkshire, with 2 handles and a band of raised decoration at the waist including fleurs de lys and stylized flowering plants. The form of this design as a circular band is not apparently recorded in Findlay's book on English mortars. But the individual stamps are very similar to ones attributed to the Yorkshire foundries.
