A bronze figure of the goddess Kwan Yin, haor pulled up into a top knot; wearing long robes down to feet decorated with scrolling plants and clouds; hands held at chest level and holding a dragon. 3.45 kg, 38.5cm (15 1/4"). Property of a London gentleman; acquired before 1980. Fine condition.
An undated archaistic bronze figure of a basket with tall handle and filled with peaches; to the top of the fruit seven mice, three to the handle and one with head poking out of side of basket. 1.24 kg, 22 cm (8 1/2"). A large bronze head of the Buddhist deity Mahakala Brahmanarupa, with open snarling mouth revealing fangs, bushy eyebrows and moustache and beard, urna to the centre of the forehead; elongated ears with small fans to the top; small diadem across the head with chevron pattern and five skulls with flames to the side to the top; hair pulled up into a knotted bun; Tibetan script to the back of the neck. 5.76 kg, 34cm (13 1/4"). From an old London collection, formed in the 1980s. Fine condition.
19th century AD. A bronze figure of the Bodhisattva Amoghasiddhi seated cross legged on a lotus throne; hair pulled up into top knot, crown with seven points and sash to the sides, hair falling to shoulders; bands of necklaces to the chest, lose robe over left shoulder; right hand held up, left hand in lap, palm upwards representing the gesture of turning the wheel of Dharma while in meditation. 2.79 kg, 30cm (12"). 12th-18th century AD. A mixed group of bronze and silver thimbles and half-thimbles. 299 grams total, 17-22mm (3/4 - 1"). The Chris Rudd collection, Norfolk, UK; formed since the 1970s; collection number DM35; found near Downham Market, Norfolk, UK. Chris Rudd has collected ancient coins and antiquities since the 1940s. As an amateur archaeologist he found many himself at Badbury Rings, Dorset, 1952-53. He also dug at Hod Hill with Professor Sir Ian Richmond and at Wroxeter with Dame Kathleen Kenyon and Dr Graham Webster. Today he is best known as a Celtic coin dealer. His catalogues have been described as ‘an important research source’ by Professor Sir Barry Cunliffe and ‘treasure houses of delight’ by Dr Anne Ross. Coins and artefacts associated with Chris Rudd – as a collector, dealer and valuer – can be seen in The British Museum and other museums. This collection was formed since the 1970s. An undated archaistic bronze figure of a goddess seated in padmasana, or lotus posture, hair pulled up into a large top knot with beaded decoration to the centre, urna to the centre of the brow, eyes half closed in meditation; crown in the form of the Three Jewels of Buddhism with framed by flames; elongated ears with hoop earrings, bands of necklaces across chest, armlets and bracelets to both arms; right hand held up and holding a sword, left held forward and holding a vajra thunderbolt; lose robes to the lower part of the body with decorative hem; lotus flower throne on a square base with cloud pattern to four sides, each corner supported by a foot in the form of an elephant head. 2.19 kg, 30cm (12").
