LARGE CHINESE CRACKLE GLAZE LIDDED GINGER JAR & PLATE. A large lidded ginger jar, painted with court figures around a table, and birds on flowering branches. With a bronze effect border around the neck of the vase and lid, the domed top lid painted with two boys by a tree, unmarked 32.5cms high. Also with a similar style plate, painted with buddhist lions amongst clouds, a bronze effect key fret border around the rim and painted with birds to the reverse. With character marks, 25.5cms diameter. (2). * Lidded jar, a little minor discolouration around the neck of the jar, bronzed border has a small chip to the centre of a flower head, otherwise in good condition., Plate, generally good condition - crazing has darkened over the passage of time. **BP 22.5% inc VAT + Lot Fee of £8

A large and rare Chinese Han Dynasty (206 BC - 220 AD) earthenware figure of a seated dog, height 95cm. Please note: This lot has been thermoluminescence dated by Oxford Authentication and has been confirmed to be period. Certificate accompanies the lot.This fierce looking dog appears to be a mastiff, a type bred in China since the Bronze Age. As is well attested, in Western provinces like Shaanxi and Sichuan, such dogs are still often used by sheep and cattle breeders in the peripheral provinces and autonomous regions of the People's Republic of China. Provenance: private collection, North Yorkshire. Believed to be exhibited at the Silk Road Exhibition in London, although no corresponding paperwork. A group of five Japanese Meiji Period three tone polished bronze vases, comprising a slender slightly ovoid example decorated with a chicken on a branch, height 22cm, a similarly decorated smaller pair, height 18cm, and a small pair decorated with bamboo, height 12cm, all five signed.Provenance: private collection in Surrey.Additional InformationThe two smaller vases have several dents around the base and also some small dents to the bodies and light surface scratches. The second pair, one has a bruise towards the top of the shoulder and a couple of tiny pin head sized dents, the other one has a single small dent approx. 3mm to the body and general surface wear throughout. The taller single vase has light surface wear, light scratches but otherwise OK.
