A rococo-style gilt bronze mantel clock, the enamel dial signed 'HRY MARC PARIS', 49cm high CONDITION REPORT: Mid 19th century. Gilt certainly appears very bright, so possibly regilded. Enamel dial restored at '5'. Enamel dial cracked at '45'. Overpainted to 1 o'clock on the dial. Once had a back plate(?), but now appears to be missing. 49.5cm high. 17cm deep. 36cm wide.

A gilt bronze and porcelain mounted mantel clock, c.1860, by Japy Freres, No.6714, the eight day movement having floral painted porcelain dial, flanked by a classical maiden leaning on a globe, raised on stepped alabaster base with applied metal scrolls and porcelain mounts, raised on gilded wooden base, signed B. H. Mourey, 48cm high CONDITION REPORT: Some minor marks and scratching to the face of figure, otherwise clock and case in generally good order

Bruce Murray Arnott MIDGET signed with the artist`s initials bronze, dark brown patina Bruce Arnott, was a Professor at University of Cape Town in the Department of Fine Art, where he taught sculpture. He holds BA Fine Art and MA Fine Art degrees from this University and was a life fellow. Formerly, he was Assistant Director at the South African National Gallery, where he assumed responsibility for sculpture, prints and drawings. He is a past Director of the Michaelis School of Fine Art, and former convener of Postgraduate Studies. Bruce Arnott is also a professional sculptor who works mainly in bronze. He is represented in public collections throughout South Africa, and has been awarded commissions in major cities in the country. He has exhibited widely; and has published books and many articles in his field. I.L. Willem de Sanderes Hendrikz MAREGA bronze, dark brown patina From the collection of the late Prof. A. L. Meiring Willem de Sanderes Hendrikz started his studies in architecture at the University of the Witwatersrand, but also dedicated himself to Fine Art forms in his spare time. In 1934 he moved to London to further his studies. He decided to devote himself to art and moved over to an art degree full time and became a lecturer in Fine Art at his Alma Mater between 1937 and 1945. In this last year, he resigned from his lectureship and became a full time sculptor, as he felt that the academic life was a threat to his creative instinct and potential as an artist. Coming after the realists such as Van Wouw and Eloff, Hendrikz was the first Afrikaans sculptor to follow modern trends. He realised that there was a close affinity between architecture and sculpture and his architectural training played an integral role in in his development as a sculptor. He was a renowned artist for the embellishment of buildings and did many bas relief panels for banks, building societies etc. - Most notably the bronze doors that he designed for the Volkskas Building in Johannesburg. This work, Marega, is a pendant to the earlier work entitled Tama Morena, also of a young Bantu girl, which was exhibited at the International Open Air Exhibition in Sonsbeek, Arnem, 1952.
