Qing Dynasty, Ca. 18th Century AD.A pair of cloisonné, enamelled cranes with twin-light candelabra. Each crane has a slender neck elegantly curved in an "S" shape, surmounted by a red crest and a beak biting on the candelabra. The slender body is predominantly enamelled in yellow within the gilt outline, and the wings and tail feathers are detailed in shades of red, white, light and dark green. The vessel rises from a flared circular base, with a tall tapering collared neck finished with a domed lid with a pointing finial. The exterior is covered with intricate ornamentation in silver and gold gilding. Ca. 11th -12th century AD.A bronze mortar and pestle with a fine patination finish. The mortar is in the form of a bulbous shape tube and a slightly flared rim. The main body is decorated with two bands of lotus buds protrusions, which are alternated with roundels consisting of zoomorphic depictions. The pestle is formed with a knobbed handle and a long cylindrical shaft with a rounded base. This object was most likely a utilitarian object used in the kitchen for the preparation of food or possibly by a physician, skilfully mixing medicines and preparing substances for the healing of the ill. Ca. AD 1100-1200.A beautiful bronze mortar and pestle set. The mortar is a hollow-cast bronze with flange rims on top and bottom, which would have allowed it to sit securely on a flat surface. The outer surface, as well as the rim, are decorated with three horizontally oriented registers containing silver inlaid Arabic script. The pestle, used to grind and crush materials inside the mortar is of slender form, and it features a flat base and a decorative knobbed handle, which would have provided a comfortable grip for the user. The use of mortars and pestles in the Seljuk world was essential for the preparation of a variety of substances, including spices, herbs, and medicinal powders.
