Michael Ayrton - a rare bronze medal issued in a limited edition of 50 and commissioned by the late John Paul Shepherd in 1995 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the death of Michael Ayrton (English 1921 - 1975) artist, writer, painter, printmaker, sculptor and designer, and also as a critic, broadcaster and novelist. He was a stage and costume designer, working with John Minton on the 1942 John Gielgud production of Macbeth, a book designer and illustrator for Wyndham Lewis’s The Human Age trilogy and William Golding, 10 cm x 10 cm, extremely fine - Est £100 - £150
John W Mills (English b 1933) - a uniface cast bronze art medal depicting 'Quentin Crisp's Fedora' with JWM monogram, Mills's signature engraved verso ca 2002, approx 11 cm, extremely fine - John Mills was made a fellow of the Royal Society of British Sculptors in 1982, and was elected president of the society in 1986. In 1993 he became a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
Karl Goetz (German) - a cast bronze medal by Karl Goetz commemorating the sinking of the SS Lusitania in 1915, obverse, a crowd of men, one reading a newspaper, inscribed (left) standing clamouring for tickets from Death at the window of a ticket office. Legend: 'GESCHÄFT ÜBER ALLES.' (Business before everything).
