He attended the Florence Academy of Art from 1902-1907. At the age of 18 he fell in love and eloped to Paris before moving to London. While there he devoted himself to the study of animals, visiting the zoo and Natural History Museum often. Throughout the first two decades of the 20th century he exhibited his work around Europe including the 1909 Venice Biennale.Sadly, his home, studio, and its contents in Milan were destroyed during an Allied bombing raid in 1942 during World War II. He spent much of the remainder of his life creating reliefs of religious scenes, but animals remained ever in his focus.Height: 24 in x width: 14 1/2 in x depth: 24 1/2 in.Condition:There are no major dents, breaks, losses, or restorations. AFTER THE ANTIQUE, A LARGE PATINATED PLASTER FIGURE OF EPHEBE OF MARATHON 20TH CENTURY Black painted 'bronzed' surface with detailed eyes 131cm high, the base 35 x 33.5cm This figure of Ephebe, sometimes called " Marathon Boy", is a Greek bronze sculpture found in the Aegean Sea in the bay of Marathon in 1925. The figure dates to around 340-330 BC and is now held in the collections of the National Archaeological Museum of Athens.

AFTER FRANCISQUE JOSEPH DURET (1804-1865), A LARGE BRONZE FIGURE 'JEUNE PÊCHEUR NAPOLITAIN DANSANT LA TARENTELLE' FRENCH, MID 19TH CENTURY The larger cast model with Neapolitan boy playing castanets, on square base with naturalistic seashells, cast by Delafontaine and signed to the cast "Delafontaine" and "F Duret" 89.5cm high, base 28 x 27.5cm Francisque Duret was the son and pupil of Francois Joseph Duret the elder (1732-1816). He enrolled at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in 1818 and won the Prix de Rome in 1823. He exhibited at the Salon from 1831 to 1863 and is perhaps known today for his bronzes illustrating Neapolitan life. "Jeune pêcheur dansant la tarentelle" was exhibited at the Salon of 1833 ( now in Musée du Louvre). Condition Report: Wear, marks, knocks and scratches as per age, handling, use, and cleaning. AFTER THE ANTIQUE, A LARGE GRAND TOUR BRONZE FIGURE OF THE PRAYING BOY 19TH CENTURY The figure with arms upraised, on plinth base 141cm high, base 32 x 32.5cm The original Hellenistic bronze this figure is based upon was discovered in part in the 15th century in excavations on the island of Rhodes. Over the course of 500 years it has undergone numerous repairs and restorations including being reunited with its left leg in the 16th century and with arms added in the 17th century. Passing through various collections it is now held in the Altes Museum, Berlin. It has been suggested that this might be the statue of a praying boy described in Pliny's Natural History as 'Adorans' and attributed to Boidas, one of the sons of the sculptor Lysippos. The whole with surface wear and verdigris from outdoor exposure- some surface scuffs and marks from handling notably to belly- some looseness around casting joints such as upper arms. AFTER GIAMBOLOGNA (1529-1608), A GOOD LIFESIZE BRONZE FIGURE OF MERCURY 19TH CENTURY Depicted wearing a winged petasos and sandals, and holding his caduceus, held aloft on the breath of Zephyr, verdigris patinated surface 184cm high overall, base 38cm diameter Giambologna's original bronze was first installed at the Villa Medici in Rome in1580, positioned at the order of Ferdinando de Medici on a fountain which formed a focal point on the formal staircase between the sumptuous gardens and the loggia entrance to the Villa. In 1780 the Mercury was moved to the Uffizi Museum, and then finally in 1865, to the Museo Nazionale del Bargello, Florence.
