David R Lee (late 19th century)A ploughing scene;A shepherd tending his flocka pair, both indistinctly signed l.l., oil on canvas31 x 41cm (2)Condition report: Ploughing: Small indent from the front into the left horse's neck collar with a little corresponding paint loss. Small indent from the reverse, lower right corner. Pin prick like holes in each corner. A little rubbing to the surface of the paint top right and lower right corner, with a few tiny flakes of paint loss, and along top edge. Seen under UV, the varnish across the whole surface fluoresces making it impossible to see any retouching. A little surface dirt. Shepherd: Seen under UV, appears to be a large area of retouching in the sky. Futher dots and dabs of retouching scattered elsewhere. Some surface dirt and a little uneveness to the canvas in the corners. A small area of thin paint in sky with canvas visible. Very slight stretcher mark at top.Both frames a little knocked and with added bronze paint.
A French Louis XV and later red lacquer chinoiserie side cabinet, stamped 'M.CRIAERD JME', the serpentine marble top over two pairs of doors enclosing a fitted interior, decorated with figures among buildings, set all-over with floral gilt bronze mounts, 114cm wide, 40cm deep, 140cm highCondition report: Large chip to left of marble top. Large areas of degradation to lacquer on all sides - very unstable and liable to more degradation. Evidence of old repairs and patches to front and sides. Interior later, and doors likely altered in the 19th century. Carcass separating slightly at back right leg. See images. Viewing recommended. Old worm to the backboard in one localised area.
