oil on canvas (Dimensions: 118 x 84 cm)(118 x 84 cm)Footnote: The sitter was the eldest daughter of John Skerrett of Ballinduff, and sister of Michael Skerrett (1749-1785), the Archbishop of Tuam. She married Dr Oliver Athy of Galway on 2 October 1741. She was both born and married into one of the fourteen merchant families, known as the Tribes of Galway, who dominated political, commercial and social life of the city of Galway in western Ireland between the mid-13th and late 19th centuries.Condition report: Oil on canvas which has been lined. In the lower half of the painting there are old tears which have been repaired from the reverse with canvas and paper patches. The edges of the canvas are very brittle and are starting to tear. There are undulations across the canvas. There are localised losses to the paint layer but overall it is stable. The varnish is extremely thick, yellowed and no longer adequately saturating the paint layer below. There are several scuffs and scratches in the paint layer. The frame has been repainted with bronze paint which has darkened and the painting is poorly housed within the frame.

an imposing green patinated bronze group of a goat and kid, with 'Grand Prix d'Honneur' plaque, signed, on a wooden plinth base Bronze only, 131 x 78cm approx Plinth only, 92cm highFootnote: Giovita Lombardi was born at Rezzato near Brescia. He studied sculpture there, and then in Milan. His brother Giovanni Battista was already an established sculptor and he followed his brother to Milan and then Rome. They shared a studio and produced high quality busts, funerary monuments and statues. He then began to move away from religious subjects and started to specialise in animal sculpture. This model of a Goat and Kid was exhibited as a marble group at the 1865 International Exhibition in Dublin and also the 1867 Paris Exposition Universelle where Lombardi was awarded the Grand Prix d'Honneur . Two life-size white marble models of this group are known; one is in a private Italian collection, the other is on display at the Sefton Park Palm House in Liverpool.

Fiore de Henriquez (Italian/British 1921-2004), stylised bronze bust, mounted on a wood plinth. Overall width 28 cm, height 41 cm, signed and dated 75. NOTE - Her debut exhibition held in Florence 1947 and following her move to Britain she exhibited at The Royal Academy in 1950. She produced work to commemorate The Festival of Britain and spent many years touring North America working and lecturing. One of her biggest achievements was a restoration of the abandoned Italian settlement of Peralta. In 1968 she began restoring the village with the local and surrounding inhabitants supplying all parts and labour. Peralta became a well known retreat for artists (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: This item is from a deceased estate and the deceased was a personal friend of the artist. The deceased's father was the Head of Geriatrics at Whitehaven Hospital for which Fiore De Heneriquez undertook a commission to produce a bust for the Hospital Trust. The vendor has also provided but not include with the sale an exhibition catalogue for the artist dated 11-27 November 1975 at the Centro D'art La Barcaccia which highlights the sculptures in the same style as the one on offer. There is also a printed card advertising a lone portrait sculpture exhibition at 25 Cheyne Walk, London September 22nd-October 2nd 1975. The sculpture itself is approximately 26 cm high and 16 cm across. From the attached images you should be able to see that the item is signed and dated 75.

Lot 2

A Japanese patinated bronze melon form jardiniere, Meiji period, decorated in relief with pheasants amongst blossoming trees, the interior base with Japanese characters, the underside with applied disc mark. Internal diameter 29 cm, height 28 cm. CONDITION REPORT: At the base of one trunk there appears to be an in house repair where the metal is slightly uneven and the interior shows a patch of +/- 13 cm wide x 9 cm high but this is not instantly obvious. The patination of the jardinière is good throughout. The foot rim has a few nicks and dents but nothing too significant. There is a small nick to the top rim. Other than that any small nicks are commensurate with age. Overall the jardinière appears to be in good decorative order.

A Japanese bronze jardiniere, Meiji period, cast in relief with wading herons amongst lotus flowers and bamboo shoots, engraved two character signature to the underside. 23.5 cm diameter, 17 cm high. CONDITION REPORT: This item has been used, there are traces of Verdigris and staining to the interior. The rim is not perfectly symmetrical and is slightly uneven. The patination on the exterior is uniform throughout. The relief decoration is clear. There appear to be no obvious cracks or repairs. Wear and tear commensurate with age.

A pair of Chinese porcelain bowls, late Qing, each decorated with thirteen females each with character marks from the dream of the red chamber, now mounted as inkwells with French bronze mounts cast with leaves and beaded decoration, with gilt bronze exotic dolphin pen rests, all upon a Japanese lacquered panel depicting golden pheasants amongst water and reeds, gilt metal mounted with leaf and berry feet. 38 cm wide, 16 cm high (see illustration).

CONDITION REPORT: A 20th century reproduction post 1950. in good order throughout. The patination is good throughout, the polished base is free from any chips or cracks. Cast in the rear rock there are four 1-3.5 cm lines, these are production lines. The signature is legible although not particularly crisp. Overall a decorative item.

A Japanese bronze vase, late Meiji period, with elephant mask handles and with relief cast decoration of a hawk and birds amongst branches above a pierced base cast with peony and scrolls. Height 21.7 cm. CONDITION REPORT: This vase is missing its cover. There is slight movement in one handle but it remains fixed to the body. The patination throughout is consistent and uniform. There appear to be no obvious losses or repairs. There are no obvious large scratches of note. Overall in good order. The base interior is decorated with leafy fronds. Overall in good decorative order.
