19th century AD. A bronze figure of the Buddhist teacher Tsongkhapa seated on a lotus flower and wearing monastic robes and hat, hands held in front in the teaching pose. 1.81 kg, 30.5cm (12"). Property of a London gentleman; acquired before 1996. Tsongkhapa (1357–1419 AD), was a famous teacher of Tibetan Buddhism. Fine condition.
19th century AD. A gilt bronze figure of the Taoist god Xuan Wu seated on a throne with a large pedestal base; clothed in long robes with meandering scroll pattern to border of sleeves and opening at front, he holds the three mountain hand seal in his right hand, the left points down to a snake wrapped around a turtle at his feet. 845 grams, 24cm (9 1/2"). From a central London collection formed between 1990-2000. Fine condition.

Bronze Age, 2000-900 BC. A group of three items comprising: one half of a circular Bronze Age stone metal casting mould for a circular mount or object, with casting channel in a coarse stone (with inked reference 'OXON'), dating to circa 1200 BC; a ground stone Bronze Age archer's wrist guard in a grey shale with two full and one partial perforations for tying thongs, chipped at two corners (with inked reference 'Feltwell'), dating to circa 600 BC; and a shard of Bronze Age ceramic Beaker vessel showing 'fingernail' impressed ornament (with inked reference 'Icklingham, Suffolk'), dating to circa 900 BC. 270 grams total, 50-70 mm (2-3"). Ex Michael Nellist collection; acquired from Keith Lloyd (with list extract), one from Bonhams 13/04/2011, lot 224 (ex Ancient Relics with certificate, ex R. S. His interest in antiquity was piqued when, during the 1970s, he spent some time working in Israel and had the opportunity to visit Roman-period locations including Lake Galilee and Masada, the site of the famous Judaean revolt and subsequent massacre. He made his first purchases at that time and was soon building an enviable collection of artefacts. While studying at university, he was able to study human remains at first hand in conjunction with archaeological research and from there his passion for the human aspects of historical research was kindled. An undated gilt-bronze ruyi sceptre formed as a curved rod with jade and hardstone inserts to the upper face, recurved head with finial comprising two stylised fruit with leaves executed in jade and green hardstone inlay. 651 grams, 29 cm (11 1/4"). Property of a London Gentleman; acquired before 1975. A ruyi is a ceremonial sceptre associated with Buddhism and Daoism in China. The staff is S-shaped and represents either coral or a rhinoceros horn, whilst the head represents a cloud or lingzhi mushroom, symbol of long life. Fine condition.

Group comprising: Bronze 'Meritorius Achievement' Star (in card box of issue); Distinguished Flying Cross (stamped G27, in case of issue with ribbon and pin bars); Navy Cross (stamped G27, in case and capsule of issue, with ribbon and pin bars); Silver Star with Double Oak Leaf Cluster (stamped G27, in case of issue, with ribbon and pins bars) and Purple Heart with Double Oak Leaf Cluster (stamped G27); all with ribbons and pins. 910 grams total, cases 18 x 11cm. A mixed group of plate brooches comprising: one fish-shaped with enamelled scale detailing, hinged pin and catchplate to the reverse; a horseman with inset cells to the horse's chest and flanks, rider's body to accept red enamel fill, sprung pin and catchplate to the reverse; one similar without enamel or pin; a gilt-bronze tutulus disc brooch with pellets to the border, central boss surrounded by five smaller bosses and surmounted by a clubbed knop. 21 grams total, 23 - 45mm (1 - 1 3/4"). A pair of Japanese silvered bronze cranes attached to a rectangular onyx base, height 26cm, base 23 x 18cm, also with original base modelled as rocks at the sea shore, raised on hardwood stand (2). CONDITION REPORT: One of the cranes toes is broken and there are areas where the silvering has gone. Taller bird: height 24cm, length 15cm (from beak to tail). Smaller bird: height 16cm, length 14cm (from beak to tail).
A Chinese Ming Dynasty bronze censer modelled as a slender buffalo with a monkey finial and a further monkey climbing its back leg, length 18cm (one horn af). CONDITION REPORT: Antler broken but present with races of re-gluing. A few areas of tarnish/patina and pitting. It seems to have been initially painted black and the paint has been rubbed in most areas.
