The paint layer has a network of age cracks with have been flattened and slightly abraded through the lining process. There is an insert at the left side of the upper edge which has a very smooth surface. Retouchings are slightly mismatched to the original and matte, for example the diagonal line above the sitter's head. The varnish is clear and glossy. The frame has been covered with bronze paint.

Henry Brittan Willis RWS (1810-1884)Herdsman with cattle watering at a riversigned 'H B Willis' l.r., oil on canvas66 x 92cmCondition report: Oil on canvas, it is unclear if the painting has been lined or not. The canvas tension is slightly stiff and the picture is in plane. The tacks securing the canvas to the stretcher have rusted, causing corrosion to the surrounding canvas, this will eventually lead to failure along the tacking edges but they are currently secure. The paint layer is in a good condition overall. The painting has been partially cleaned with old varnish remaining in the darker paint passages. The varnish is glossy and even with a slightly grubby appearance and a layer of surface dirt present. The frame is in a sound condition, the original gilding has been covered with bronze paint.

The panel has a few vertical splits which are evident on the front surface. There is a thick layer of mould and dirt on the reverse. The paint layer is in a good, stable condition overall. There are scattered retouchings across the surface which are well matched to the original. The varnish is clear, glossy and even. The frame has a few losses to the decorative moulding and the front surface has been partially toned with bronze paint.

The canvas tension is very slack. The thinly applied paint layer is flaking in many areas following lines of craquelure and along the centre where the canvas is hitting the central stretcher bar. The carved wooden frame has been bronze painted, there are a few old repairs along the lower edge. The painting is glazed and appears to be in close contact with the glass. The glass is very dirt inside and out.

After Pierre Jules Mene. A bronze group of a ghillie, pony and hounds, width 23in. height 20in.CONDITION: This is a late 20th century copy, the casting is reasonable but not fine, overall of a dull chocolate brown patination but raised sections such as the top of his hat and back of the horse have been polished to a light golden tone, white paint or dirt marks are scattered around the head of the fox and other crevices, on a black marble plinth.

An 18th century Mughal Indian bronze and parcel gilt ewer, decorated with bands of scrolling leaves and flowers, remnants of zinc or tinning to the exterior, 26cm highCONDITION: There is occasional minor dents to the body, wear to the once tinned or zinc decoration on the exterior, the spout is a little wobbly but is attached, the hinge has a later metal pin in it, other slight minor casting imperfections.

Henri Fugère (French, 1872 ~ 1944) - an Art Deco patinated bronze figure of a cymbals dancer, signed and with foundry mark 'AUSTRIA MADE'', on onyx plinth, height 21.5in.CONDITION: Overall with a matted slightly dulled near grey finish that once had more brown tones to it, where worn the raised areas show mostly as silver but where further worn do have a dark bronze colour, apparently unsigned, original plinth with a few minor nicks.

Thos. Hawley, 75 Strand, London. A Regency bronze and ormolu mantel timepiece, with central drum case surmounted with a basket of flowers, flanked by seated muses reading books, one signed by the maker, unsigned movement, width 14.5in. depth 3in. height 12in.CONDITION: Overall in fair to good condition, the ormolu clean and bright with just some very slight wear to the extremities, hands looks original, enamelled dial a little dirty with some chipping around the winding hole, bronze muses a little dusty with a dull matted finish, movement complete and going but not tested for timekeeping, comes with an adjustable pendulum and a later key.

Victor Demanet (1895-1964). A bronze figure of a barge man operating a lock gate, with blued green patination, signed in the naturalistic base, width 26in. height 17in.CONDITION: Good honest untouched condition, a little dusty but no faults noted.

A French Art Deco bronzed spelter table lamp, modelled as a kneeling dancer holding aloft a spherical marbled glass globe, on black marble plinth, height 21in.CONDITION: Metal figure had a golden bronze patination in the main but much of this has now been rubbed down to a darker blackish ground metal colour, in addition there are some light surface scuffs and scrapes, the globe may well be the original, certainly fits well and does look a little dirty, plinth very dusty but otherwise good.

A Chinese bronze gui censer, Xuande mark but later, the compressed ovoid body cast in relief with taotie and phoenix to a band, cast with a pair of zoomorphic handles, 16.5cm wideCONDITION: There is heavy encrusted patination to the censer particularly on the interior, around the upper part and around the foot, some occasional minor nicks and dents otherwise in a reasonable condition.

Ch. Gaultier, Bordeaux. A late 19th / early 20th century French bronze and ormolu mantel clock, modelled with Cupid holding a cockerel, with floral painted enamel dial, unsigned eight day movement, on a Sienna marble plinth and ormolu toupie feet, height 15.75in. width 10.25in. depth 6in.CONDITION: Overall in somewhat neglected condition, bronze of the cherub is a good rich chocolate brown but has some green verdigris where the left leg meets the ormolu case, cockerel has a dull ormolu finish, main body of the clock ranges from mid gilt to dark tone with pronounced green oxidisation or verdigris showing on the left side, dial perhaps a little dirty but otherwise looks good, signed CH. Gaultier, Bordeaux, movement looks complete but lacks pendulum and key, very minor fritting around the edges of the marble base, feet a little dull in finish, overall in need some restoration but a very high quality clock.

Lot 70

Alfredo Pina (1883-1966). A bronze figure of Héraclès kneeling upon a rocky mound, signed on the stone, width 21in. height 20in.CONDITION: Overall a little dirty and dusty but otherwise looks to be in good order, a greenish dark brown patination evenly throughout, stamped Made in France on the underside of the left foot, signed in ink on the back of the rock which has light scuffs and scratches to the extremities, one small pin hole in the bronze by the right ankle.

Lot 60

Karl Hagenauer. A brass and ebonised bronze figure of an African water carrier, with vase on her head and brass rings around her neck and one leg, on integral plinth base with maker's stamp, height 46in.CONDITION: Brass work in fair state of polish, ebonised bronze work has had much of the original patination rubbed away over the years, base is a little scuffed but overall honest condition.

Lot 276

A Chinese late Ming bronze group of an immortal seated on a recumbent deer, 12.5cm longCONDITION: The group has a black / dark brown patina with areas of wear visible all over.

Lot 289

A 19th century French bronze mantel clock, modelled as Cronos holding an ormolu scythe, the drum movement with serpent bezel and silvered Roman dial, on a Sienna marble plinth, height 17.5in.CONDITION: Overall in honest untouched condition, main figure has a dark brown to blackish patination with some rubbing on the raised extremities, scythe may well be a later replacement but looks appropriate, dial in good clean condition, movement not tested for timekeeping. Plinth possibly later but in good order.
