Antique rich dark brown metal representation of Hindu divinity.Exemplary and extremely well preserved 17th century Indian Nayak Dynasty period, possibly Tamil Nadu, bronze copper alloy representation of Balgopal or the Baby Krishna, depicted with a playful and mischievous expression, dancing and holding a ball of stolen butter. Rich dark chocolate metal with subtle antique patina. Krishna is a major deity in Hinduism, worshipped as an avatar of Vishnu and also as supreme in his own right. Legends of Krishna's childhood describe him as a mischievous boy whose pranks earns him the nickname Makhan Chor (butter thief), and a protector who is loved by the people. Extremely well cast.
