Stott: 1939-1945 Star, Atlantic Star, Defence Medal, 1939-1945 War Medal, pin-mounted for wear on original ribbons; RNVR Decoration, EIIR, 1962; Royal Life Saving Society Bronze medal, boxed & certificate en suite (Mount St. Mary's, Sheffiled, 1939); a pair of Merchant Navy 1st Officer's (Cdr.) epaulettes; original letters and documents, some copied research; Mrs Althea Stott (née Robinson): WVS Long Service Medal, boxed, with award letter dated January 1944; original documents in maiden name from Buenos Aries, Argentina and Montevideo, Uruguay, where she grew up, including two passports with photographs, 1932 and 1942John Stott (b. July 1924) and Althea Robinson (b. December 1924( were both born in Lancashire, but Althea grew up in Argentina and then Uruguay. The British Consular records from 1941-45 show that they were married in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, most likely at the end of the Second World War in 1945. An interesting group of five medals to Victor George Alma Seager, R.N.V.R., who served with Carnac Battery of the Royal Naval Siege Guns near Nieuport: British War Medal 1914-20, Victory Medal (L.Z.4610 V. G. A. SEAGER. A.B. R.N.V.R.); Defence Medal; Special Constabulary Long Service Medal, George VI (VICTOR G. SEAGER); French Croix de Guerre, with bronze star; together with a small quantity of ephemera and research, including a XVth Corps card signed by General Du Cane citing the recipient's 'Good and Valuable Service and Devotion to Duty', two similar cards from 36th Army Group Artillery Lourde (French Heavy Artillery), and a collection of photographs including the recipient in uniform wearing his Croix De Guerre, and studies of the Naval gun emplacements in Belgium. Medals good very fine or better. During the Great War the Royal Navy - specifically the Dover Patrol - established heavy artillery positions at the Northern extremity of the Western Front. Working closely with the French, and at times under their control, the officers and men of the Royal Naval Siege Guns fought a gruelling campaign under intense and sustained bombardments and gas attacks. Carnac battery was particularly celebrated for its endurance and effectiveness, being cited in French Army Corps orders. The recipient himself appears to have made a significant contribution to this, being the specific subject of a similar order for "readiness and calmness under fire" and receiving the Croix De Guerre; and he was furthermore commended by the British Army after they had taken over his part of the line.
