12" - A great mixed collection of around 250 x 12" cuts. Artists will include OMC, Ozzy Osbourne - Bark At The Moon (ltd. silver/bronze pic disc, just needs a little clean), The Cult, Blondie, Jesus Jones, North Side, China Crisis, The Monochrome Set, 5 Star, Ultravox, Duran Duran, The Call, Simple Minds, THe Bolshoi, Erasure and The Belle Stars. Pair: Egypt 1882, no clasp (J. Bates Ord 2 Cl. HMS Thalia); Khedive’s Star 1882 VF. With this lot several items related to the recipient: Seaman Gunner Torpedo man 1st class cloth arm badge of 1885-90 period, his Gunnery Drill book 1882 and Musketry Instruction book 1882; Rifle Practice Instruction book 1885; 2 cap tallies: 1 white with gilt embroidered anchor/ HMS Powerful / anchor and black with gilt wire thread HMS Alexandra; his canvas “ditty” bag printed with his name (some repairs); a rubber stamp of recipient’s “signature”; a black silk apron embroidered with flowers etc, the waistband being a cap tally of HMS Swallow (a Union Flag motif slightly unstitched), the colours on the whole remain bright; a notebook showing diagrams of mines and poems etc (slightly AF), his named bible & common prayer books (latter front cover missing); photocards of recipient, wife, son and HMS Swallow; a touching poem “Think of Me” to his beloved wife Lucy enclosing pressed foliage; news cutting of wedding and his vellum service certificate. Plate 3 Note: Jesse Bates, born 6th May 1864 at Barcombe near Lewes. He served aboard HMS Thalia 2nd July 1882 to 6th October 1882, entitled to Egypt medal and bronze star, HMS Swallow 1 January 1887 to 4th March 1890, HMS Alexadra 8th March 1891 invalided out 4th September 1891. HMS Powerful not shown of his record. An enclosed memorial card shows recipient died May 12th 1893 aged 29.
A 5 shot .31” Cooper Firearms Co DA percussion revolver, 9¼” overall, barrel 5” marked “Cooper Firearms Mfg Co Frankford Phila. PA” and patent dates, number 10239, with bronze trigger guard and backstrap and plain walnut grips. GWO & C (slightly worn overall, some patches of pitting to steel parts); in a later baize lined fitted case. Pistol only Plate 12
A good cased 5 shot 54 bore Beaumont Adams double action percussion revolver, by Robert Adams, 11” overall, barrel 5¾” engraved on the top strap “Robert Adams, London”, London proved; frame engraved “B.6049/ Adams’ Patent. No. 21664. R”, the cylinder “21664R” with deeply chequered walnut butt and plain steel buttcap. Very Good Working Order and near Very Good Condition, retaining approximately 85% of mirror blued finish; in its original green baize lined fitted oak case with brass escutcheon in the lid, with maker’s trade label and containing bag shaped copper flask by Dixon (slightly dented), R Adams Registered double cavity bronze bullet mould, brass mounted cleaning rod, nipple key with pricker (key end worn), pewter oil bottle, soft leather bag for percussion caps with worn paper label, and wad punch. Good Condition (slight moth to lining). Plate 37
A 5 shot 80 bore 3rd Model Tranter self cocking double trigger percussion revolver, 9” overall, barrel 4½” engraved on the top strap E. Cogswell. 224 Strand London”, London proved; with scroll engraved frame and breech, fame also engraved “No 12,120T” with chequered walnut butt. Good Working Order and Condition (the barrel lightly worn and refinished with minor flaws near the muzzle); in a modern close fitted mahogany case with “Tranter’s Patent” double cavity 80 bore bronze bullet mould (hammered and bruised), and a small “bush” embossed brass powder flask. A cased 5 shot 54 bore Beaumont Adams double action percussion revolver, 11” overall, barrel 5¾” engraved on the top strap “W & J Kavanagh, 12 Dame St, Dublin”, London proved, barrel and frame also bearing “LAC” stamp of the London Armoury Company; frame engraved “33,317/ Adams’ Patent 39114”, cylinder also engraved “39114”; with deeply chequered walnut butt and plain steel buttcap. Good Working Order and Condition, retaining approximately 60% of original blued finish; in a red velvet lined fitted mahogany case with trade label of Deane Adams & Deane, and containing R Adams Registered double cavity bronze bullet mould, bag shaped copper flask by Hawksley (slightly dented), brass mounted ebony cleaning rod, ebony handled nipple key with pricker, pewter oil bottle, cap tin, and key to case. A scarce 19th century American Steward muzzle loading line throwing gun, the iron barrel 32” with 2½” bore, with trunnions at the rear and bronze elevating ring 12” ahead of the breech, the breech with oval brass plate inscribed “Steward Davit/ &/ Equipment Corp/ Patent B334/ 17 Battery Place/ New York” on its iron mount, base plate embossed with the maker’s name and address. Basically Good Condition (rust overall, the elevating ring loose and lacking its locating pin). Plate 40
