A BALLOCK DAGGER IN THE 15TH CENTURY FLEMISH MANNER, 22cm flattened diamond section blade set with a thumb rest to either side of the forte, cast bronze drooping shouldered crossguard, black painted wooden handle. Blade patinated and twisted. Generally relic condition, the handle a later replacement.

Until 1986, it was awarded to members of the Citizen Force of the South African Defence Force for twelve years of efficient service and good conduct. The period of qualifying service was reduced to ten years in 1986, early void type, bronze, with large coat of arms, with crossed Swords for army.
