IllustratedMarshall Foch, the French general, who during World War 1, was made Commander-in-Chief of Allied Forces 1 March 1918. He is primarily considered to have brought the war to an end. The Germans sought an armistice and he dictated its terms.He was the only French military commander to have been made an honorary Field-Marshall in the British Army.There is a large equestrian statue of Foch, by Malissard, in Lower Grosvenor Gardens, London.
