LOUIS XV STYLE BOULLE FOLD OUT CARD TABLE, 19th century, the double serpentine top enclosing a baise lined playing surface, the two back legs pulling out to support the top and revealing a void, the shaped frieze centred on a female mask above cabriole legs with with gilt bronze child mask mounts and scrolling feet, height 75cm, width 90cm, depth closed 48cm
•DENIS MITCHELL (1912-1993) POLZEATH Bronze with a dark brown and polished patina; titled, dated, signed with initials and numbered Polzeth [sic] 74 DAM 7/7 on the underside of the slate base Height (including the base) 32.5cm. * Conceived in 1974, this bronze was cast in an edition of 7. Provenance: Purchased by the vendor and her late husband directly from the artist in his St. Ives studio on June 28th 1985. The accompanying photograph shows the artist on that day. Exhibited: Swansea, Glynn Vivian Art Gallery and Museum, Festival Exhibition of Sculpture by Denis Mitchell, 6th October-3rd November 1979, cat. no.31, illustrated (another cast shown). Literature: Peter Davies, After Trewyn: St Ives Sculptors since Hepworth, Old Bakehouse Publications, Gwent, 2001, illustrated pp.15, 20 (another cast shown ) A copy of the Swnasea catalogue accompanies the lot and also copies of `Denis Mitchell - Sculptor` by John Halkes and others (Cornwall, 1992) and two copies of `Denis Mitchell - Sculpture & Drawings, Newlyn Art Gallery, 1-27 November 1985` also by John Halkes (Newlyn 1985) (5 items).
